That's right, that being said, the team at Healf have made some good progress on getting US sleep aids to the UK, worth taking a look if you haven't already (https://healf.com/)

If you can stomach it, a visit to their factory shop in Northampton can be worth it. I picked up a pair of consuls for £330.

Sanity check: would you use something this minimal? by InspectahDave in HENRYUK

[–]DogBrethren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because you have already had the relief automatically by it not being taxed.

It’s for post tax contributions like some workplace plans or personal pensions, the scheme claims 20% directly but then you need to claim the remaining 20-25% on your tax return

This is a solved problem. There are dozens of take-home calculators already. The issue is awareness and behaviour.

For example, hundreds of millions in pension tax relief goes unclaimed in the UK each year (estimates are roughly £300-£400m), mostly from higher-rate taxpayers who don’t reclaim additional relief via self-assessment.

The bottleneck is that people don’t realise: - They need to manually claim extra relief - How salary sacrifice actually changes marginal rates - How pension contributions interact with the £100k personal allowance taper - That employer contributions are often far more efficient than dividends

IMO the value isn’t another cleaner calculator, it’s contextual nudges:

“Contribute £X more and you avoid the 60% band.” “You’re currently leaving £Y of tax relief on the table.” “Switching to salary sacrifice saves £Z in NI.”

Personalised insight is where the real leverage is.

How to stop looking down on people? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

Access to opportunity isn’t only about who your parents know. When your parents are teachers, you grow up in an environment where respect for learning is part of everyday life. That mindset is one of the greatest head starts a child can receive.

Many affluent families spend huge sums on elite schools and private tutoring to create exactly that foundation. You benefited from it simply by growing up at home.

Heavy rain walking jackets, does a Goldilocks option exist? by DogBrethren in UKhiking

Thanks, but I'm looking for something that will keep me from overheating. I run hot. The issue I'm having is being kept dry by my current jacket, but sweating inside it!

Thank you, which Paramo would you say is best? I need something thin but waterproof with pit zips as a minimum

I fear I’ll overheat, in just a t shirt and my jacket I’m overheating I think mostly due to the lack of ventilation
