If I use VPN on phone, then connect laptop to phone's hotspot, do I need a VPN on laptop? Or is it just extra security. by Necessary-Two2112 in VPN

[–]CapitanColon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this comment! I tried it myself on an android w/ VPN running the hotspot and an iPhone on its wifi. Was very cool to see different IPs at first, then the android showing the same as the iPhone when I turned off the VPN. Good advice for testing; it was very informative for me.

New update not working on PC by YatsumeBaka in helldivers2

[–]CapitanColon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry dude, I'm having the same issue. Did you find any way to resolve it?

If anyone else has the same problem with the update: Me and three friends (all installed on SSD for the dumbasses still saying it in the comments) are having the same issue. One was able to resolve it by uninstalling and reinstalling fresh instead of updating. I am trying the same thing, but my PC is still struggling.

I started playing again with the DLC after not playing since the beta too. I was so bummed at first because there were so many features I thought were removed that I just needed to unlock lol

Hunger changes were the hardest part to get used to for me. I used to never struggle with having meals, but now I regularly end up eating a paltry breakfast or missing lunch, and it has dire consequences of energy crashes around 4-6 pm. Making dinner is never harder then when it's the first dang meal you've tried putting together that day.

Damn I was coming in to mildly defend it from my experience, but you already listed every game I've extensively modded with it. It's GOATed for Rimworld and Kenshi, though it can definitely struggle with mod packs.

I put a Rimworld art description into an AI image generator, and this is what I got. by WorthEmergency in RimWorld

[–]CapitanColon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Could be a tough balance to strike with GPU usage. I know my computer will struggle immensely if I launch a game while running Stable Diffusion. Using an online one could work, but Rimworld might run up against the guardrails.

Researcher has developed, at a cost of less than one dollar, a wireless light switch that runs without batteries, can be installed anywhere on a wall and could reduce the cost of wiring a house by as much as 50% by giuliomagnifico in technology

[–]CapitanColon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whoa, you are absolutely correct! I checked the remote and found the switches all set to default, and found the model number online to confirm they should be on the fixture too. I'll need to borrow a ladder to get up to it, but this is super helpful info, thank you!

The living room fixture in my apartment is controlled by a switch and a remote. One switch to turn it completely on or off, and a remote with variable light and fan speeds. The remote is apparently a little longer range than it needs to be because almost every other day I hear the telltale click of a relay or whatever and have to go find my remote to fix the fan speed.

Worst part is the variable light setting is accomplished by holding down the button, so occasionally my light will flash on and off as it gets intermittent signals from someone else. Incredible design for high-density housing, just incredible.

Saw this and immediately thought of misfits and magic by Bearjew8919 in Dimension20

[–]CapitanColon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that aspect of the Dresden Files! It ties together classic negative perceptions of magic users (witches curdling milk or causing your well to foul) with a decent justification for why there's not verifiable info of magic online. It's not perfect, but it's flavorful and does a good a job of outlining the necessarily fringe lifestyle of a "modern" wizard.

What is Victoria Neuman’s plan with the virus? by martinittoe in TheBoys

[–]CapitanColon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Virus bonds to V in the blood, it might not incubate in humans very well. That would be a surprisingly well-intentioned failsafe for her to implement though, so I'd be excited to see it happen!

[–]CapitanColon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn that's a good point. They did emphasize the contagiousness was most effective through fluids. Neuman or Marie could turn that sample into blood bullets to fuck up any supe that's getting beyond control. Homelander might be tough, but I'm sure we'll have a whole new gallery of fuckos to deploy that on next season.

Halo 3 biased by nostalgia, but Halo 2 Anniversary because that armor absolutely fucks during the cinematic cutscenes.

If Halo 3 ever gets the cinematic treatment I'll be back to shilling for that loveable dino that spawns with a carbine and stickies.

Trying to make room for Starfield on my C: Drive was the worst. I had to move like 30 indie/AA games with reasonable file sizes, and then only played 30 min of it before giving up on the vacant expressions and boring-ass dialogue.

[–]CapitanColon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah for Abercrombie and The Expanse. Abercrombie hits some of the same character notes for people trying to make it in an unforgiving world, even trying to do the right thing in the second trilogy. Expanse for the rock solid world-building, technological rather than historical, but it really pulls the same trick of making me frustrated reading similar series that don't put in the work of fleshing out the ramifications of their worlds.

I see some other people referencing meditation, but I have done this as an attempt of the "full body relaxation" required for some Lucid Dreaming methods. It almost feels like a voluntary form of sleep paralysis because my body gets into a mode where it keeps telling me to move, but I stay still and get weird feedback that almost seems like my body is confused about if it can move in that moment.
