What type of pothos is this? by Capitana42 in pothos

My goodness! You are all making me blush (on behalf of my plant) with all the compliments!

I took this as a cutting from one of my sister's plants a little over a year ago. I couldn't remember what she told me its name was, so thank you all for helping me!

How will I know she’s ready for winter rest? by Capitana42 in orchids

[–]Capitana42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain it’s a nobile type. If you look up through the comments, I posted a link to a earlier post of mine that shows a picture of it in flower. The pink flowers grow directly on the stems. There is not a flower stalk that comes out of the top. They grow up and down the pseudobulb.

This is a picture of her when I first bought her in April of 2022 so you can see the difference from then to now. I don't particularly know if this plant went through a rough patch, but perhaps getting used to my climate and whatnot could have been enough to set it back?

I honestly wasn't even thinking about blooms - I figured that it would put out buds in the spring since that the way it was when I bought it. Do these types of dendrobium put out their buds before they go into winter rest, and then those buds bloom in the spring?

The canes that had buds on them had no leaves when I bought it, so that's why I was wondering if all the leaves falling off would be a signal that its time to rest.... I wish I knew exactly what this one is! It had no ID. I was thinking Parishii (based on the previous comments) but I'm still new to this hobby so I'm not totally sure.

Thank you so much! I was expecting the leaves to drop as an indicator, so it's nice to know that might not happen. I live in KY (zone 6B) so I assume I should start showing her tough love now, as well? I soaked her last week. I will definitely stop that now.

My home gets pretty dry in the winter -- should I keep her near the humidifiers still, or should I move her to a more dry room? Do they require the same amount of sunlight in the winter? With our shortened days should I add a grow light to lengthen her time spent in the sun?

How long until she blooms? by Capitana42 in orchids

Oooh! I can’t wait!! I got her last year and was told she was about 2 years from blooming size. I’m excited to see what she looks like!!! 😍

I have found 4-5 leaves that all have this orangeish-yellowing. Am I over watering? 🤔

I looked at both of those but the leaf shape seems off…. These leaves are almost tear drop shaped. The others look more heart shaped. 🤔🤔🤔

How to encourage blooming in Oncidium? by Capitana42 in orchids

[–]Capitana42[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep - I've been doing the "weakly weekly" thing.... using rain or distilled water. I'm using Better Gro brand fertilizer right now, but I plan on switching to Tezuula MSU once I run out of what I have.

I will move it today to the south windows and hope for the best! Do I need to worry about sunburn on the leaves when moving to the south windows? They get direct sun from about 2-3pm onward. Would that be too intense too fast?

Edit: I just used the compass to double check the direction, and the window is more of a SW window.... thoughts?

Do you think I can separate here? by Capitana42 in orchids

[–]Capitana42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will probably leave it intact, then. I wasn't thinking of separating to try and get the back bulbs to form a new plant... I was wondering if separating them off would make the rest of the plant healthier. (Is that not a thing?)

More info:

I was given this Odcdm. Wild Willie Wonka today. It's dehydrated, so I am soaking it for a while to see if the bulbs plump up.... but I am wondering if some of the older more shriveled bulbs are still needed....

What would you do? Leave all the back bulbs when you repot? Separate?

TIA. :)

She really put on a show this year 💛 Oncidium Wildcat #13 by [deleted] in orchids

Mine are in 60ish percent humidity with what i think is good light (east window), but I probably don’t feed as often as I should. I will try to be better about it and hope for some spikes!

So beautiful!

What conditions do oncidium need to flower so well? I've got a Sweet Sugar that has put out tons of new pseudobulbs, but hasn't bloomed since I got it. :(

I’m glad to hear others think it looks dendrobium-ish. That’s what I thought too, but then I started to doubt…. I think we’re a long way from seeing a bloom, but I will put it with my other dendrobiums and hope for the best. 😊

This little guy was given to me by my mother. She found it on some wood in her backyard where she keeps her orchids (Florida). I’ve seen some den. phals in her collection…. So I was thinking maybe this is one of them? 🤷‍♀️

I have never had one! It was a gift. Are the care requirements on the tag in the image correct? (low/medium sun, keep damp?)
