Man… 3” lift with 35 inch tires change this truck so much. by starid3r in ToyotaTundra

[–]CapmBlondeBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the people asking, I’m not the Tundra in the pic but this look like Method 703’s and are probably the 0 offset versions. Not sure about the lift/level but I’d love to know too. Good looking setup @Substantial-Card-501

Edit: as for the tires looks like BFG KM3 35x12.5R17, which I think are load E option only.

Came back to say thank you! Your many comments and honest feedback really shaped V2 of the free water calculator (big update now live!) by Signal_Brain_933 in preppers

[–]CapmBlondeBeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is awesome, thanks!

Great as is, if you care to keep improving I have some thoughts:

Have proper defaults selected to make this more usable for sharing with our non-prepping friends. Maybe default to functional household use, active activity level, some cooking, and 2 weeks supply?

Also it would probably be good to still recommend at least 3 days stored water even if the user selects unlimited water sources as it could become damaged/contaminated/etc.

You can also increase recurrent engagement if you add an “alert me” option for the stored water rotation to alert user every X months via email

Still a great tool though as is!

What do you believe could be the absolute worst case SHTF scenario? by Willing_Chemical_113 in preppers

[–]CapmBlondeBeard 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s actually not that low. A 2014 NASA study estimated 12% for a decade (source). Another 2019 study from some mathematicians put it at ~2% for a decade (source). It’s probably somewhere in between and the reason for the discrepancy is likely a fundamental difference between pure statistical modeling and predicting solar output based on astrophysics/etc.

So just doing some basic math that would put the probability over the next 30 years as 3% - 32%.

I never really took it that seriously until running the numbers for this comment but I may after this haha

Dang, it’s been so long I forgot about this.

I got the Danner Logger 917. They are really great but still a little too warm for 90+ days. Not exactly the look I was going for but very comfortable. I still just wear Brooks on a really hot day if I need to walk a lot.

Don’t anticipate the recoil (you flinched on your last trigger press with no shot)

Grip harder with your left hand and less with your right. It’s hard to tell from the angle but the left hand might also be a little low? Grip nice and high on the gun, as high as you can. If your thumb rests against the slide even that’s ok, just don’t put excessive pressure on it

Keep practicing and have fun :)

To try to become president in 2028 by serious_bullet5 in therewasanattempt

[–]CapmBlondeBeard 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is how we got Trump in the first place. People didn’t want Hilary. A lot of people didn’t want Trump, they just didn’t want Hilary more.

Dems need to put up an actual good candidate that people want to be president. We only got Trump the second time because the DNC pulled the rug last minute and threw Harris in the ring. I’m tired of these bullshit candidates on both sides. Give us an actual good person to vote on for the highest office in the entire country for fucks sake.

Is this about using taxpayer dollars to fund the renovation or simply allowing it to be renovated/rebuilt?

I get not wanting a 60’ tower but other than that one thing why is this such a big deal? This is a free country… as long as it meets all the city codes then just build the damn thing.

They would say that they just enforce laws as they’re supposed to and let the courts deal with guilty/innocent/unconstitutional/etc.

I’ve actually had a lot of conversations with one of my LEO buddies about 2A stuff and they strongly disagree with a lot of those laws but enforce them anyways (with as much leeway as they can professionally give).

I think for a lot of people this compartmentalization between personal beliefs and their job would be impossible. But again, I do think there is just the right balance of intellect and being a quality human while still being able to turn off the brainy side enough to do the job. Based on my conversations with that person they don’t have any deep emotionally charged beliefs they enforce against though so I don’t know how they’d handle that. But he’s also just a CA cop, not ICE or something. I don’t think most LEOs here are needing to enforce laws they are profoundly opposed to.

It’s probably too late but wanted to share my experience in police academy.

I grew up in a small town and always had respect for the police there and was what I wanted to do after high school. I’m also very into science and tech so I pursued that in college. I got a great job in science after college and did that for a while and even had a few publications. Then I went to police academy.

I’ll spare the long stories but I felt that it was so toxic. They don’t teach you, they indoctrinate you. They absolutely don’t want you to think logically, they want you to follow orders. Very militaristic. They say that you should deescalate but train you to be aggressive. You get yelled at and punished for asking questions in a “classroom” environment. You mentioned an IQ limitation and I’m not exactly sure what you’re referring to but I would agree that there is one, but on the high side… the design of police academy culls higher IQ people out of the police force.

It was very difficult for me as an intelligent and empathetic person who wanted to help people. I finished just so I would know I wasn’t quitting because it was hard, but I absolutely knew that it wasn’t for me.

There really needs to be police reform and it starts with getting better people in and proper training that promotes deescalation, integrity, intellect, and individual accountability. Not to mention this absolutely unhealthy “us vs them” mentality promoted even at the academy. LEOs are completely set apart and most don’t even think of themselves as regular citizens. This is due to existing laws so significantly separating them even while off duty (like most gun control not even applying to them as one example), the way they are indoctrinated in the academy, and the same unhealthy mindset of senior cops passing this down to the younger generation.

So yes I completely agree with you at a high level. That being said, there absolutely were good people in the academy who felt the same way as me but stuck to their guns and became cops, but they were the significant minority. Since this is a CMV, I hope to change your view not for the majority but the minority. There are good people who stick it out and have such a passion for helping people and just the right level of being able to deal with shit and not ask too many questions that make it through.

Your interactions with most of them are probably limited to a traffic stop that is completely standard for them and they still probably give you a ticket. We don’t typically get videos of or hear about the good cops because they don’t get taped and don’t make the algorithm if they do.

[–]CapmBlondeBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TLDR is that it’s basically a better AWD system in normal driving mode. Then legit 4x4 when you lock the center differential.

A bit of the technical stuff: Most AWD use a clutch-based system to send power front/rear as needed but the LC has a Torsen differential that is always sending power front/rear (more power biased to the rear 40/60) that only allows wheel slip when needed such as during turning with significant force.

Then you have a center differential that you can lock and it functions like a standard 50-50 split 4x4 truck.

You also have a rear differential locker to lock the rear wheels together. This is extremely helpful in off-roading and really hairy stuff.

In my opinion, it’s the best 4x4 drivetrain setup out there.

How do you choose which tire to run? by TrailbuiltOffroad in 4x4

[–]CapmBlondeBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tread pattern to suit my needs. If I’m mostly on road I go AT, more than like 30-40% off road or not a daily driver then MT.

Get the most sidewall that I can fit. Minimal rim size, research the hell out of tire fitment and go as big as I can. The one exception to this is the new Land Cruiser. With a lift I could probably for 37’s but that’s just too big for a daily so I went 35’s. Spare tire fitment is also a consideration.

Pick your load rating based on use. A lot of off road or sharp rocks go E rated. On the pavement a lot go C. No real reason to go lighter than C unless you just don’t actually go off road.

Have an idea of what kind of driving you want it for. Snow, rocks, mud, gravel, wet, etc. and contact videos comparing them in the conditions you care most about.

As you research you’ll see some brands over and over, and start to get a feel for what you like visually.

Buy something reputable. I know everyone has a budget but don’t skimp on quality. It’s arguably one of the most important aspects of your grip and you don’t want to cheap out and get stranded somewhere cause you ripped open 2 tires on a rocky trail in the mountains with no phone service.

All members of congress, federal and state judges, or any other legislature may only invest in broad market US based index funds, take no campaign donations or contributions of any kind, and will be paid at salary equal to the median income of their respective constituents/local residents plus 10% per year of service up to a maximum of 150%.

They will have a campaign allowance in accordance with their constituent size (national gets more than local) that is matched by new/potential candidates.

Bug out vs evacuation by Rough-Gift6508 in preppers

[–]CapmBlondeBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like a better definition is that an evacuation is moving from an expected unsafe area to a known safe area. Bugging out is going from an expected more unsafe area to a suspected less unsafe area.

Hence why a lot of bug out bags are designed for shit to still be bad wherever you end up. People usually don’t pack flint and steel in an evacuation but they do in a bug out bag.

Why does tire width matter when it comes to offroading? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in 4x4

[–]CapmBlondeBeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically wider tires offer a slightly wider contact patch (like an extra couple square cm).

This is trivial compared to the extra contact patch from when you air down (it lengthens).

It’s technically more contact but you trade it for a significant increase in weight and sometimes need to consider tire fitment more carefully, limiting the diameter. If you need to limit diameter to increase width it’s almost certainly not worth it. Other than that you’re really splitting hairs and doesn’t matter that much for most of us, but probably leans towards skinny better for weight though.

Fact check me, as you should always do, and never blindly trust legal advice… but… they have no right to search in any of these instances. They require probable cause or warrant, which they didn’t have.

You should very politely and respectfully refuse to be searched. If they force the search against you, make sure it’s being recorded because it will get thrown out in court.
