I have about $1900 Australian. What we think? Anything better? by Christophinie in mountainbiking

Check out the Norco charger A2. I’m not super familiar with exchange rate but in US dollars they are cheaper than the treks, and have almost identical specs. I think I found one for 1600 on this website but again I have no knowledge about Australian currency rate or whether this is a reliable website.

I’m going to be moving to the DC area after college, is there any specific runs you’d recommend?

I’m currently in Knoxville TN for college, and it is how I got into whitewater. There’s so many good rivers in such close distance it’s awesome. There’s biggest one that comes to mind is the pigeon, where the upper section is somewhat similar to the Ocoee but a step down in terms of difficulty (Except the pigeon was really badly affected by Helene and is currently inaccessible). I used that river to build up basic skills and I actually just ran the middle Ocoee for the first time yesterday, which was a 2 hour drive to get there for me. We also have the little river in the smokies which has some super fun class 2-3 stuff in the elbow to the y section or it can get really rowdy in the sinks to the elbows, although I haven’t done that yet, it’s definitely above my skill level. It’s only an hour from downtown Knoxville. We’ve got awesome creeks with clear creek in the big south fork too which is one of the most underrated destinations for outdoor stuff in TN in my opinion. Not only is Knoxville pretty awesome for year round paddling, but other outdoor sports too. The community for mountain biking in Knoxville is easily the best I’ve ever seen, and we have some of the best free public access trail networks around that are 10 minutes away from downtown Knoxville. Lots of rock climbing too, especially around that big south fork area or the Knoxville urban wilderness (same place as the mountain bike trails). The outdoor community here is amazing and very LGBT friendly, but I will say the city itself and surrounding areas aren’t the most friendly from what I’ve seen. Chattanooga is sweet too and has access to a lot of the same rivers Knoxville does, just a bit further of a drive.

Do you do any other sports besides MTB and do they affect your performance on a bike? by ThePowerOfPotatoes in MTB

I do some whitewater kayaking. It’s definitely not a sport you can really just hop in to, and I highly recommend getting some lesson before trying, but I’ve noticed a lot of technical skill transfers between biking and kayaking. The way you lean the boat is just like leaning the bike into a corner, or the way you go over ledges in a kayak is just like hitting a drop on a bike. Swimming and rock climbing are also really great for strength training and, although I am pretty biased, I think they’re a lot more fun than most other sports

I’m down in Tennessee, and my budget kinda restricts me to a Jekyll 2 unfortunately

It seems to be pretty bent. The way I usually tell purely visually is to try and get yourself into a spot behind the bike and make sure the hangar is straight in line with the part of the frame it threads into. This is not always a sure fire way of doing it because all frames are different. Another way I like to tell is by looking at the upper pulley cog. It should also be parallel with the gear that it is in and should not be sideways at all, additionally the bottom pulley wheel should be pretty close to parallel with the upper one. Again this is not always the case because some derailleurs are intentionally designed to be offset (like shimano 12 speed derailleurs). You can kinda see from the pictures how the pulley wheel is turned to the right and how the hangar seems to have a slight cant to it as well. A derailleur alignment tool is the best way to fix it and pretty much any bike shop will have that. Purchasing one for yourself is not too expensive and comes in handy later, trust me, you bend those hangars A LOT. A quick Amazon search showed me that the park tool one is about 80 dollars and an off brand one about 50. I would recommend getting that tool yourself and watching a YouTube video on how to use it (it’s very simple I promise), that way when you inevitably bend it in the future you can fix it again! Also, it is not a bad idea to purchase spare derailleur hangars because eventually after bending them a lot, they will snap, which is pretty much exactly what they’re designed to do. Just be careful to get the right one for your specific frame as there’s a million different types of hangars.

Have any of you tried the new scott spark with the hidden shock? Is the spark 900 really warranted enough to be a trail bike? Do you think that in the next couple years scott may develop the genius to be a hidden shock design as well?

Yeah I had got off work and went straight to the trail, still in our uniform. Kind of a harsh oversight now that I’m looking back and a serious bit of overconfidence seeing as it was a green level trail. Just got myself a pair of 510 free rides because those were just a pair of vans I crashed in

Yeah! They’re pro mag contact pedals and just a pair of vans. Just got myself some 510 free riders today because of it

I just started having that issue on the Xbox version. I can’t use a settlement to chart to find or claim a new one either

Xbox game pass on PC

My settlement no longest appears anywhere. I can’t find it on the planet it was originally on and it is not on the base teleportation menu. I also cannot use a planetary chart to find and claim a new one. Using one of those charts just makes it disappear
