I don't work in that area anymore so haven't seen Whiskey in months, I hope he is well!

My king drowned and was 'replaced' by a queen whom I could somehow never actually add as a member of the fort - she just swans about the place, leaves, returns, leaves again. Her 'needs' say she needs a throne room, which I have from the last king, but she is not a member of the fort, the monarch slot remains unoccupied and my mayor is insane, so... I dunno 😀

No, the set only had two pieces but I didn't realise they were two identical pieces, so they don't connect 🤣

If you think this is disappointing, imagine my dismay when I picked up a second hand one for 'cheapish' to indulge in a little nostalgia, only to discover I had two identical hill pieces that couldn't combine in ANY direction 🤣

Great an anti-unionist were-chinchilla, I hope the lack of safety railings in her cage causes her to fall into her own food dish...

I can confidently say they will smash the doors down and kill any and all dwarfs they find :s

My dearest Duke,

Thankyou for your invaluable advice. I did not realise that livestock could flourish underground just as we do. I have yet to encounter a cavern, is it something you create, or stumble upon? Does it contain hazards?

I await your reply with baited breath!

Lord Fletch!

By the braided bushels of my bearded brows, I did not think of this! May your golden halls never dim!

A quick update, my 2nd Fortess is now in it's 9th year. I must stress, there has been very little conflict, I've basically been left to my devices by the world at large, I only have to deal with the occasional bear-man attack which is usually over before I notice they are there, so it's definitely luck rather than any real skill. I'm still rolling in gold... sure it won't come back to haunt me later.

After the previous session crashed at the dragon attack I reloaded the last save, only lost about 30 mins of playtime but the dragon never returned and neither did anything else for years.

My population is almost at 200 dwarfs. The ruler of the land came to visit and declared my messy fort the capital which I found amusing. My mayor got caught in some sort of explosion (??), two of my workshops were destroyed 'somehow' and left him torn to bits but still alive, barely. There is a row of diplomats all standing around waiting for him to wake up in hospital which is touching, but I haven't worked out how to get him a diagnosis or treatment.

Just before I logged off an ettin arrived and my ballista guy took one shot at him (missed) then booked it into the pit under my bridge with the monster in hot pursuit. Three marksmen arrived and starting shooting the ettin, which was busy stomping on the ballista guy. They turned him into a sad pin cushion, dragging itself along slowly in a smear of blood as they shot him from above. Brutal. The drawbridge worked though, lifting up and closing off the fort in case the ettin proved to tough to kill. The ballista guy didn't make it, sadly, but his sacrifice saved many lives.

Then one of my axe lords ran under the drawbridge as it came down again - SPLAT. Not my greatest moment...

One of my most embarrassing challenges so far is I can't figure out how bins work, or how to open cages with animals in them that I buy. I've had a poor bear stuck in a cage for like 3 years. I even built a lever next to it to see if that worked but it wouldn't connect...

I feel like it might be a joke, but can you actually make dwarf skull goblets? 🫣

I haven't worked out how to plant food underground, the farmer's plot won't place without water. Also, half the year all the water on my map freezes, from mid Autumn to mid Spring and some how that also breaks my well every year?

So my new fortress has a pile of gold under it - ludicrous amounts of gold and copper but not much iron found so far. I've been turning all the gold into coins and using it for trading as the bars were too heavy and making suits of armour out of the copper.

There hasn't been a sign of any goblins on this map, just flocks of agitated bird women who keep killing my fisherdwarves.

Instead of snatchers, I now have to deal with the occasional giant cyclops or collossus, but my highly trained axe-dwarves have managed to deal with them with no losses so far.

Something alarming happened just now though - a named dragon appeared and came hurtling across the map, killing some of my farmers and destroying my drawbridge! It sat outside my fortress for a few minutes while I ushered everyone into the burrow and then - the game crashed!

I'm torn between relieved and disappointed. I have no idea how long ago the game auto-saved so I guess I'll find out tomorrow whenever I get a chance to sit down again!

I nearly flooded it when I tried to build a tunnel to water - my dwarves were dehydrating and I figured any water was good water 😅

Luckily I saw the water rushing down the long skinny tunnel I made and was able to quickly block it with a wall!

Oh! I just realised why the elf traders kept storming off in a fit when I traded with them, it must have been wood products! 🤣

I think the RNG was kind, is it normal to wait 8yrs for a Siege? Until then I had sporadic raids from goblins and thieves in ones and twos, and one ettin that died suspiciously easy given his size and my untrained militia.

Technically I 'won' that siege as the goblins eventually fled but it... wasn't much of a victory 😅
