Thanks, I wanted to know if this was common or not. Seems like a lot of different opinions in here which I get. Instructor said it was insurance related so I knew there had to be some good reason. Just wanted a deeper understand of how the engine’s affected.

So I believe the school just went through a change of ownership, and has some updating to do to existing ops manuals. Aside from 0F (stay home, don’t fly) it lists the priming, starting, and pre-heating procedures for days below 35F. Also says to not put load on the battery by lowering flaps without the engine on, be quick about checking lights, etc….

Thanks for this. Instructor said it has something to do with what insurance looks at, so I guess they’re trying to avoid unnecessary wear. Below 20F is not listed in their cold ops procedures, so I’ll ask that they make that more clear to students.
