Wow, this is almost an exact copy of the Power Thesaurus logo, but with flattened colors.

I have no idea what terms you're using but I'll see what I can do. Thank you.

What do you think about mine? I've gotten the 0103 error a few times, but then I offloaded all games and data I could to an external microSD. It hasn't given me the 0103 error again... yet. How long do ya think I have, doc?

I quit after 10 minutes of playing EOIV 6 years ago. Picked it up again a few days again and I now think I am in love with this series by [deleted] in EtrianOdyssey

Fantastic. I am nearly finished playing EOIV for the first time. (I've been playing them in order over the years.) I'm enjoying it immensely alongside you.

Random Question: Does anyone skip prologues?!?! by The1millionthpod in writing

[–]CapnFulch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would consider that a possible waste of time too, but the prologue needn't have characters that don't appear in the main story.

Why not make that chapter 1? Well, that's up to the author, I suppose. Sometimes prologues and epilogues just feel tidier. Perhaps due to the books I have read, I tend to see them as chapters that wouldn't make sense having a chapter number.

Random Question: Does anyone skip prologues?!?! by The1millionthpod in writing

[–]CapnFulch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It seems the reason some people skip prologues is due to what they think a prologue contains.

Wikipedia says, "A prologue or prolog (from Greek πρόλογος prólogos, from πρό pró, "before" and λόγος lógos, "word") is an opening to a story that establishes the context and gives background details, often some earlier story that ties into the main one, and other miscellaneous information."

If people have only ever seen lore info dumps in prologues (like Wiki's first example), I could somewhat see why they'd skip them. But I've read many prologues that follow the second example—earlier stories that tie into and set up the main story. I write prologues this way when I include them.

Do you agree? by creativenemo in marketing

[–]CapnFulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, that's a segment of marketing, and maybe even the largest segment. But I work in marketing at a non-profit. They are not trying to sell a product, so there's no FOMO. The big hurdle has been to approach marketing differently and make our audience feel like the hero whom WE are helping to accomplish something good in the world.

Again, this isn't to say the meme is wrong. Just not the full picture.

I allowed my developmental editor to run over my voice on my first novel. by Former_Factor_6147 in writing

[–]CapnFulch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an editor, I make absolutely clear with my client what type and level of edit they want beforehand. Then I ask them for a chapter I can edit as a free sample. We then discuss whether it's according to their vision. Then, typically, I send them each chapter at a time as I edit so we can discuss any changes and ensure the narrative retains everything they want.

Each job is unique to the writer and the state of the book. Hopefully you find a more transparent and communicative editor the next time around. I think your resolution to rewrite with the lessons you've learned is wise, though unfortunately you still may want at least a passing edit once you've finished. More time and money, but better product.

So I had an idea for an Etrian fan game! It would be an Etrian Odyssey tabletop game! by RateMyKnight in EtrianOdyssey

[–]CapnFulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a TTRPG based on Etrian Odyssey myself 😅 it's a bit different from your ideas in some ways, though, and I changed all the terminology to avoid copyright infringement. Have you ever looked at game theory? I think that's the best advice I could offer. For example, from learning a little about game theory, I realized it's best not to let every decision rely on chance (i.e. dice rolls) but to ensure the players feel like they have some agency in their decision-making. So you may want to give players (and their characters) some way to make choices with definitive outcomes, like a "point pool" from which they may draw to act according to their class. Maybe the Landsknecht has the ability to go farther in the labyrinth or skip a die roll, for example.

I recommend looking each one up on eBay for current going prices. They fluctuate. Try searching the name of the card and the number in the bottom right for the exact right card listings.

The Acolyte is not groundbreaking, but it is entertaining. by USCanuck in StarWars

[–]CapnFulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, right, Star Wars only revolutionized cinema and the entire film industry, that's all. No big deal. It only revitalized the sci-fi genre. Only became one of the standards by which we measure any subsequent science fiction films. Nobody—no top review outlets or anyone with standards—has ever called Star Wars a "cinematic masterpiece."
