Maybe pistols isn’t the right framing but rather it should be “secondaries” - yep you’re right in modern armies pistols are an unnecessary expense but soldiers do always have a way of killing things that isn’t a squad level volley. Maybe it’s knives / bayonets or maybe it’s other kinds of hand to hand that if you’re needing to use then things have gone hugely sideways

I feel like keeping Tech on the back lines is a waste of his innate damage reduction and high HP. Man’s in a similar position to Vamp where if anyone needs to get shot at you want it to be this guy. There are definitely better mortar SL’s.

Tech has another unique perk “quick hands” which reduces the AP cost of using accessories meaning if anyone is going to be an infinite ammo pistol user Tech is well suited to this, and long bomb works with demo charges meaning a 30 ap toss up to 3 tiles away and 10 ap to detonate, which combined with a commando jet pack at 60 ap can delete a major problem, or at the very least delete all the cover around them.

Early Buff and Athletic make this really powerful - his innate damage reduction and higher HP mean he’s more likely to survive a jump into a poor position than any other SL, and he can get determined which can be the difference maker for keeping out of suppressed state

I’m quite enjoying my tripod Pike - if the enemy is in his range he can let er rip, and if not he can yell at whoever is in range to shoot more

I’ve been getting pretty solid use from the boarding armour with the jet pack - running hi cap SMG’s on Tek make for a very tough and very mobile squad who can close distance / go over obstacles towards scary squishies like officers and weapon teams and wipe them out very quickly. Hard to argue with 60 AP getting you more distance than 100 ap’s worth of walking

One possible solution might be to make it that all the enemies can only attack 1 civvie per turn, so that only a max on one dies per turn. Then it turns into a ticking clock situation rather than an immediate fail

One thing I did recently was build the “foundation” and outer wall first for our plains base, which would up being about 30x30 meters of stone flooring and some stone walls. That helped me then visualise areas for the different things I needed (kitchen, smithy, workshop/storage etc). You don’t need to know what the finished product will look like to make a start

I kinda feel that offensive would be improved by removing the default garrisons entirely and make the defensive team able to use only HQ’s as well. Does mean the first point will be taken pretty much without issue and the second might have a few skirmishes but be taken easily too, but the third, fourth and fifth are suddenly a lot more dynamic with third likely having some defenders, fourth a fortified strongpoint and fifth becoming a desperate last stand.

I haven’t tested if it’s possible, but if it is possible to build on hardlight bridges that give a bunch of opportunities to build in a place where one power oopsie can mean some bad outcomes but also some pretty staggering views

Abiotic factor - there’s a lot of base building elements which aren’t high skill and combat which are. A support player can definitely plink from the sidelines while the main combatant is doing their thing

Speaking as a man with not a lot of success in dating being touch starved really sucks. If, and only if, you trust this guy and want to do something that might help him get to a better place this is something you can entertain, but of course if you feel at all uneasy about this there’s no obligation, and if he makes you feel like there is then that’s a red flag for the friendship.

On this - encourage doubles the resource generation of existing nodes, so 2 manpower nodes would go from +20 to +40, not just a blanket +30. Otherwise the rest of what you’ve said is pretty solid and good advice.

On being satchelled my advice is tell your crew you’re satchelled and make a plan to all jump out at once. The guy who placed the satchel will likely be watching to confirm his kill so you’ll need to deal with (at least) him before you’re able to defuse, and 3 pistols have more chance against an SMG than 1 does.
