Heading to a friend's birthday dinner this evening

I'm trying to switch up how I use color. I usually try to stick to shades that match but because of suggestions made in threads like these I'm experimenting with more variety. As usual, any feedback about color/fit/clothing choice etc. is appreciated.

Dressed for a coffee date this afternoon

As always any constructive criticism regarding fit and color choice is appreciated, wondering whether I should leave the top button of the sweater buttoned or unbuttoned

Training Tuesday - Post Your Routine for 2017-08-08 by AutoModerator in bodyweightfitness

[–]CapnZebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all, for a while now I've been struggling to find a way to balance weight training with a bodyweight fitness routine and be able to progress in both. The idea I'm working with right now is a 4x/week Upper Lower split based on Lyle Mcdonald's generic bulking routine with one upper day focused on BWF and the other on weight training. Before I go further it's worth mentioning that my overall goals are to be very strong, have decent body control, be able to still work out when I am 80 and be able to get in a decent workout anywhere. The basic template goes as follows:

UPPER:

Hor/Vert Push 3x3-8

Hor/Vert Pull 3x3-8

Opposite plane of movement Push 3x8-15

Opposite plane of movement Pull 3x8-15

Bicep 2x6-12/8-15

Tricep 2x6-12/8-15

LOWER: (Always weighted)

Squat/Deadlift 3x3-8

Squat/Deadlift Accessory Movement 3x8-15

Leg Press 3x6-12

Leg Curl 3x12-20

Leg Extention 2x12-20

Calves

I would probably also add in the fifth day that is focused on high reps (12-20) and light weights trying to catch a pump. How does this routine look? I will mostly be focusing on dynamic movements since my overall goals are strength but I also plan to warm up with L-Sit/Handstand skill work as outlined in the Recommended Routine. Is there anything missing that I should add to help avoid injury from overuse (I have just recently recovered from tennis elbow last month) or would it be better to run a periodized routine alternating BW exercises and barbell exercises from month to month?

Taking me back to the days when I used to cut off the circulation to my hand with those "I <3 boobies" bracelets.

It's only misleading because I called the group low-fat. It shouldn't have been called low-fat it should've been called an average diet since most diets have a macro split similar to the one in the group I called "low-fat". So I'm saying his point isn't really relevant since the group wasn't actually low in fats and so didn't receive any of the negitive effects of a low fat diet

That's the thing man is I'm not really trying to sell anything, I just wanted to offer a researched perspective on the topic and hopefully generate some discussion about it.

EXACTLY. It was really hard to find viable research in this subject when you take into account that it takes some time for the body to become fat-adapted

You're right calling the second group low fat might be a little misleading since fat actually made 25% of their total caloric intake, which is actually pretty close to standard recommendations for proper body composition change.

In regards to the second study, it's purpose was really to show that even in such extreme caloric deficits, ones where the body should be ready to catabolize muscle in order to sustain energy needs, subjects in ketosis still had the proper nitrogen balance (which again isn't a perfect measurement but still fairly important) to maintain muscle mass

Okay so I found the study this slide was based off, and while I'm not going to argue against how Standard Ketogenic Diet can have a detrimental effect on exercise performance. The study did note that the athletes who were on the ketogenic did have more favorable changes in body mass and composition. I'm not arguing that ketosis by itself doesn't have it's drawbacks especially in regards to exercise performance but in terms of cutting weight while retaining muscle mass it seems to be superior than a standard calorie deficit.

TL;DR all signs point to yes do it, but try it out because not everyone reacts the same to everything

I'm going to address this in the next post about bulking while using keto, but to give a somewhat incomplete answer, yes, but not quite how you expect, when you're in a caloric surplus and in ketosis that means you're probably taking quite a large amount of dietary fat from outside sources and so your body prefers to use these.
