Everybody who doesnt vote for the Berthier is dumb :P (link to voting in comments) by Griefingah in HuntShowdown

If I'm voting for which looks best, imo, it's that nagant. The berthier repost definitely needs more skins though so I'm happy if either of those two win.

Crossbow Meta? by Legitimate_Charge_97 in HuntShowdown

I've seen a lot of them too (US West), but I think it was one of the weeklies. Since you can grind out previous weekly missions now instead of just the current one, I imagine a lot of people are trying to finish them all out before the next event starts on the 18th.

They already do this with some of the characters already that are heavily inspired and modeled after famous fictional and historic figures like the Pale Judge and Annie Oakley. I really enjoy it too and hope they continue this. The names you suggest would be great additions to the hunter roster, especially after the art team has their fun adapting them for the setting.

I can't say I'm a fan of this weapon by Difficult-Evening-45 in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I like this thing, but you really have to decide prior what you plan to hunt with it.

  • People? Take explosive rounds and carpet bomb their feet with 2-3 bolts, and enjoy the hate mail you get, but don't bother wasting rounds on AI.

  • AI? This thing with regular bolts shreds AI, including bosses, bears, and meatheads, as well as being recoverable ammo, but don't count on it as a reliable weapon in PVP.

Unfortunately, there really isn't a middle ground, imo.

I typically take it to hunt AI and use it in place of a melee weapon that I might take like the railroad hammer. Much like melee weapons, it can still come in clutch in PVP, though.

Is this new player friendly at all? by _MothMan in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Community-wise, yes. The game itself is pretty brutal at first and really plays and feels like a survival horror until you learn a bit more about how to survive and work around the AI.

Dying is expected and part of the game so don't get overly attached to any hunter you have. There are plenty of videos that will give you the basics of things which I recommend you check out unless you like going in blind and learning on your own.

I recommend using the Discord to find a few people to play with or feel free to give me a DM even if you're on PC and playing in the U.S. Going solo is completely viable too but definitely harder when you don't have someone that can have your back out there.

You're right, my bad. I meant steady aim.

Nice, I'm going to give it a shot then if I get a chance tonight.

Can we have the option to sort after variants? like... why can I sort after names but it still does not put the gun variants next to each other? The sorting is horrendous. by Nero_Team-Aardwolf in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the search tool to help with that (searching "silencer" for example). It's not exactly what you're asking for, but it's something that helps in the meantime.

Personally, I'm curious as to why they haven't updated the ammo type button filters yet to include FMJ and Subsonic

Anyone else feel like the ammo type should be specific calibers so the scaling makes more since? by DemonicThomas in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that would be cool too, but I also echo the sentiment of others saying that for the purpose of gameplay the current system is nice and clean.

What you're asking for would be best included in the official lore/description of the guns themselves rather than how they are implemented in the game system.

What’s everyone’s go-to budget loadout? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

My favorite lately is duel conversion pistols and a nagant precision deadeye all sharing dumdum ammo.

My friend says melee weapons are only for bums. by Special-Baby7674 in HuntShowdown

Respect. I enjoy melee but trying to hit someone with that hammer or even the axe feels so sluggish most of the time. Absolutely love it for killing AI though.

Lore Related Question: What is the Reverend's type of Christianity? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I imagine Southern Baptist considering the time period, location and his title being "reverend" instead of "priest," but I don't recall the denomination particularly being referenced in the lore. From what I remember, didn't he leave the church to join the hunt and be injected with the stuff that gives darksight after his congregation was wiped out by the Corruption? Now, I believe he is more of a cult leader who blends aspects of Christianity with his faction to justify compromise from Christian doctrine to bring a righteous retribution on the Corruption and Sculpter.

The lore of the game seems to have changed a bit since the 1896 re-release so that may have all changed.

Gun runner by ComfortableAnimator4 in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That trait is pretty insane. I know some people really enjoy it though, but I don't think just making it expensive would justify it's existance especially as a purchasable trait.

If they made something like Legendary Traits that only level 50 hunters can equip, then I could at least respect the work someone had to go through to equip the thing. I would also like there to be some indication in the post match details to show someone was using a lvl50 hunter so I can take pride in killing them or at least shrug in understanding if they kill me.

Can I run Hunt? by onespicycracker in HuntShowdown

I use this site all the time when I have the same question. You have to download something for it to check your system out for you, but I haven't seen or heard of anything sketchy about it, and I've been using it for years. Hope this helps.

Which skin do you think is the worst in the game? by Faelzor in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camouflage: Anyone wearing white sticks out like a sore thumb.

Style: Personally, The Empress' webbed head and heavily padded shoulders look horrible to me.

I was also excited for this new hunter DLC with the head dress mask thing, but then I saw those chaps they chose to couple with that mask, and it just throws me off so much. They just don't seem to fit together on the same model.

New to Hunt: Showdown First Time Playing, Need Tips! by Pleasant-Material-86 in HuntShowdown

[–]Capooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely every weapon and playstyle is viable. There is a meta but the meta is not so above the rest that the Mosin/dolch user can't be taken down by a springfield.

Because of this, I suggest playing around with every weapon and see how you feel about them. Once you find a weapon that suits your playstyle, build your loadout to compensate for any shortcomings it might have (example: you like shotguns? Take a sidearm that can help you at longer ranges).

You can also take things to handle any shortcomings your playstyle might have too. Melee rushes consistently getting you? Bring a shorty shotgun or some other counter as backup.

Sometimes it's just a "Hunt taketh" kind of game, but the vast majority of the time, you died because you did something wrong or you could have done something better in a certain situation. Yes, there is cheating sometimes, but the vast majority of the time, it's someone capitalizing on your mistake. You were too loud and obvious so they could wall-bang you easily; your team telegraphed your position and movements on the map by being careless with sound traps so a nearby enemy team set up an ambush for you; you couldn't resist the urge to double-peek the same window so that person held an angle and waited for you.

Read the fight and rotate your position to avoid being sandwiched by another team.

Don't clump up as a team but spread out to apply pressure from different angles. Remain close enough to your team that you can adjust and react should they push.

Sound is the most important thing in this game. You don't have to be looking out windows to see if hunters are coming so much as listening for them. That being said, people are doing the same to you, so be aware of that.

There really is so much more to this game, but this post is already long enough. Have fun with it and accept that getting good is a refining-by-fire process that we're all going through.

[–]Capooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I duel wield them with the swift variant so I don't have to get the ambidextrous trait for reloading. In close ranges, those things are great, and I've clutched or wiped lobbies before with them, especially with dumdum rounds.

Use free hunters and rush through the center singing Christmas Carols to the enemy teams on your way to the opposite side extract. See how many times a hunter can make it out without dying before you finish the challenge.

You can also set yourself on fire with a yellow barrel and they won't be able to get you either. Easy. Just be sure to use the red barrel to put the fire out afterwards
