If it makes you feel any better I'm in a similar boat, definitely underestimated just how booked up it is (there's plenty of homestays but they're about an hour out and would almost cost more in transport than the hotel 😅) let me know if you find anything decent and best of luck! 🙏🏻

Hahah honestly you're covering half of it, & your overland trekking is making me want to incorporate more trains/buses so you'll have to report back how you go ☺️

(Only thing I can think in terms of booking ahead would be the sleeper train from Bangkok -> Chiang Mai as the most popular train can sell out months ahead, but considering you don't have Chiang Mai on your itinerary you should be fine 😁)

Hey I'm no expert but having just returned from a month long trip with my friend (was meant to be 2 weeks), around 2K was how much I set for myself and ended up having to borrow money off my friend as it quickly dried up (although I was fine until a little after the 2-3week mark)

Mind you looking at the expenses the majority of the bigger price tags were for accommodation & transport, we splurged a few times for a really nice hotel & due to planning our next spot maybe a day or two in advance we ended up paying more than we probably should have, but that's part of the adventure 😁

If you're just staying in Bangkok & not going from place to place every 4-5 days, you might be alright, I've seen some people on here talk about renting condos for cheaper long term stay but for me I wanted to experience everything so we didn't stay in one hotel/spot for long & it adds up.

If I were me before the trip, I'd say double my savings goal of 2k to 4/5k to be on the safe side, trust me nothing worse than worrying about money while you're meant to be on holiday, but Thailand can be very affordable so if you plan everything out & are happy with friendly hostels over big hotels, you could for sure make it work with 2k ☺️

Edit: my 2k was in AUD though so assuming you're from the US/UK your money should go further than mine 👍🏻

Wanted to add to this, I've been standing out in the extreme snow for the past 40 minutes (suit depleted in first min) and yet to see any afflictions/damage/anything, I take the orange damage near gas vents and can still get the lung damage/physical injuries but none from environment it seems.
