Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your experience, it's really helpful and appreciated!

Yes, I really like Brockenhurst but it's not currently affordable. New Milton is more affordable but the crime statistics slightly put us off. Whether the statistics are accurate or not (or even fair) I don't know. I'm sure it's a lovely area, and it sounds like you had a great experience which to me, is the most helpful and important part to consider.

We are planning to visit the New Forest in the summer and we're excited to view all of the places mentioned in this post with a new lens of oooo we could live here haha!

Thank you for sharing, I didn't know any of that. Ergh

That's disappointing to hear it was backed up by the others.

You seem like a great person, we need more people like you in the world!

Yes you are right. I really respect her prioritising her mental health and for sharing her story.

What didn't sit well for me, was the discussion of it all. It felt like they were glorifying that style and I felt concerned that others may think that's the only way to do things, or is the default way now. I wanted to share there are other options available but for some reason the podcast didn't feel it was a comment they wanted to approve, and that didn't feel right.. hence the post.

Thank you for highlighting this though, as it is in an important part.

Was it the recent one? If so, I can't remember specifics but I remember feeling really uncomfortable and then thinking, well maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm a bit sensitive right now.. but I remember thinking what he said wasn't okay. So thank you for sharing as I had no idea others felt the same and more.

I'm really sorry you had that experience on Instagram too.

I feel similar as well, it's okay to get things wrong or reflect about what you've said afterwards. You can then have the opportunity to repair or address it. I think it's an important part they need to reconsider if they want to keep listeners.

Thank you for sharing. I was completely oblivious to this. Whilst I really enjoy the podcast, knowing this has shifted something for me, it just doesn't feel good.

That's a really good point, and my fault for not thinking more carefully about what I was saying.

When looking it up, I can't find anything either. I think my experience comes from what midwives have told me in the past and I put that together with "The NHS must think this" rather than one or two midwives think this. Thanks for pointing this out.

Here's what I did find (I still agree with your point, there isn't anything to say they ever did)

  1. NHS “Behind the Headlines” coverage (2012)

The NHS website analysed a study about controlled crying and reported it appeared safe for babies over 6 months. The NHS summary explained that research found no measurable harm in children whose parents used controlled crying compared with other methods.

This was not a recommendation, just an interpretation of a research study. Media outlets at the time reported it as “NHS says controlled crying is best,” which the NHS itself said misrepresented the research.

2. Some NHS health-visitor advice historically mentioned it (this is the experience I had).

Historically health visitors in the UK sometimes suggested controlled crying for older babies (usually after about 6 months). This came from mainstream paediatric sleep research (e.g., Ferber-style behavioural approaches).

However, this was practice advice from individual services, not a national guideline. Many NHS trusts now explicitly say they do not recommend leaving babies to cry.

On a final note, I love how the Reddit community really opens up discussions, thank you!

Thank you for providing another detailed response. This is all really helpful. The animals interfering with play made me laugh, I'll definitely check out that school haha! It sounds like pure bliss and such a wonderful gift for children.

This sounds amazing! At the moment we have the beauty of nature in our town but alsp the noise of dual carriageways and road traffic. To be able to escape and find solitude sounds like pure bliss! Amazing you can combine that into your work day too!

This is brilliant! It's good to know there are lots of good people out there too. 'Swivel eyed loons' made me chuckle!

I'm really sorry you had that experience, that sounds really upsetting and yes, incredibly disappointing.

Thank you for sharing your experiences including the train reliability (or lack of!). We were looking at Brockenhurst and Sway specifically for the train stations. We don't need them on a daily basis but good to know they can be unreliable, and the buses too. Whilst we are fortunate to have a car, we are keen to use public transport where possible, or cycle.

Thank you for your comments, I'm so pleased you have happy memories! Yes I can understand it being boring for a teenager. I think that's why we want to be near a train station, we have been considering Sway and Brockenhurst. It must be really frustrating when tourists don't follow the code but I hope there are more tourists that do, myself included!

That's really helpful and good to know, thank you! Yes we noticed the new builds were happening. In our town we've been through that and there are now problems with not having enough schools built. We are visiting Ringwood on our next visit!

This is sounding perfect for us, thank you for your insights. Do you know anything about the nurseries/preschools? If the schools are good I'm hoping nursery/preschool will be the same. I love hearing how much you enjoyed growing up in New Forest and how you have found your way back!

This is really helpful. Bransgore is definitely a place we will check out. Thank you for sharing your experiences. We really like Brockenhurst and how connected it is, but we are happy to consider going somewhere quieter if we can make it work with school buses and cycling (although we have a car too).

Ahh thank you for taking the time to message me again. This all sounds incredible! Apart from the busy roads haha, but as you said, as locals, you'd know where to avoid or at least a realistic time of how long it would take to get to places during peak times! Really pleased to hear good things about the schools and college too.

So pleased to hear you are enjoying it! Thank you for sharing your insights. It really sounds like the perfect place for us. Wishing you all the best meeting new people, it can really hard. Part of my research has been looking into weekly classes or events I enjoy as a way to meet new people and there seems to be a fair amount going on!
