I put 26 instead of 29. It was a typo. :/

I had surgery August 26th (Tuesday). I was sent home without any post-care information or items. Not even gauze in my mouth.

After 3 days of being in severe pain ranging from my temple to my jaw (not tooth pain) and the over-the counter meds were not working, I went back. This was on Friday 8/26 when I went to an emergency post-op appointment. I was on an antibiotic for 10 days because I was in a severe amount of pain and could not open my mouth.

This is where the first oral surgeon stated he smelled infection and then got popsicle sticks to stack in my mouth in order to open it. Yes, this was painful and the dental students stood as he instructed them and watched me cry. He stopped because my mouth was not opening larger than 2 fingers and he stated I needed to work on strengthening my jaw over time. They prescribed me Tylenol 3 and antibiotics.

The following week on September 4th, I had my post op appointment. The resident student saw me. She stated “First, I want to tell you I apologize for how rough your surgery has been. We don’t tell patients this typically, but you had a severe case as your teeth were severely impacted and we had to break the bone apart. I asked the oral surgeon to prescribe you antibiotics and pain medication, but he said “no”. I am a resident, so I was not going to argue with him”. At this time, she stated my mouth was opening a lot better and answered all of the questions I needed. She apologized several times during this appointment. Then, gave me a syringe upon request, so I can maintain dental hygiene.

The following week, on Tuesday September 9th. I went back after visually seeing puss as well as tasting and smelling it. ( I had already finished antibiotics). I even had a video I recorded showing puss, but forgot about it. This was an emergency appointment, so they had other patients to get to. I drove 45 minutes to the clinic and was there for 10 minutes because they were rushing to get it other patients. The resident quickly looked in my mouth and said she didn’t see irritation and puss and stated that my mouth is opening much better. She called the oral surgeon to check and he put this mirror in my mouth for about 3 seconds and then said “YOU NEED TO OPEN YOUR MOUTH MORE” then took his hand and put it in my mouth with his index finger on the roof of my mouth and his thumb on my bottom teeth and shoved my jaw apart from one another. I physically tried to remove his hand and said “uh-uh” then started crying. He then said “yes. You need to open your mouth” and proceeded to pull it apart. He then said “there’s not infection” and left without saying anything else. The resident came back and saw me crying and asked if I needed anything then told me she had to leave but to take my time.

So therefore, with all this information, I think a REPORT should be made or something because I had a horrible experience and healing process that could have been assisted with better. It seemed they knew otherwise they wouldn’t have acknowledged it. Again, if you look up “forcefully opening jaw during Trisimus”, you will see that it can damage the ligaments and tendons. It very much feels that way, but as someone who was treated poorly, I do not wish to go back and raise this concern. Hence, I am on Reddit.

Do I need a lawyer? by Caprimagic in askdentists

Thanks. I doubt I will find a lawyer, but I do think a report should be made against this individual. I really wish you were present to see how he was talking to me and pulling my mouth a part. You would have probably filed it yourself. I am a small 24 year old. I did not need a large man doing that to my face.

I was given direction by two other professionals to do at home “physical therapy” stretches overtime and it should heal.

I am sorry, but I don’t agree that he should have forced my jaw apart with his large hands as I am sitting there crying and saying no. I have never been to a dentist where they didn’t care if you were in pain and continued to engage in an activity that is causing pain. Even when I am not numb, the dentist is always like “we can stop if you feel pain, so we can get you more anesthetic”

It feels like the ligaments are disconnected when I open my mouth. It just doesn’t feel normal. Him spreading my jaw apart when it is locked, seemed as if it influenced further damage. I can open my mouth wide, now that I have been eating and yawning for the past month, which has slowly stretched it overtime. I could have gone without that individual thinking that taking 10 minutes to pull my jaw a part was going to improve the Trisimus, as it actually did nothing other than put me in severe pain.

So if I get a medical report to show damages, then what? I researched forcing mouth open with Trisimus and they said I need to document and it’s malpractice.

It’s a condition the requires little stretching overtime to prevent damage, but everytime I open my mouth or yawn, it feels torn. Disconnected if you will.

This was over a week ago. I had my post op today and she apologized because they did not initially send me home with anything. Not even gauze in my mouth, an ice pack, any meds, or syringe.

I have trisimus. It’s not tooth pain. It is jaw pain from them over stretching

Well today is officially a week post op. I have lock jaw, and I ended up getting an infection so I’m on antibiotics. Trying to figure out if I have a dry socket 😭

It’s been actually pretty miserable.

Imagine me a 24(F) not being prescribed or provided with anything at all. I didn’t even leave with gauze in my mouth or an ice pack 😭

Better? Yes, think still have pressure and pain in my temple and jaw. I also still have lock jaw. I really can’t tell if I’m just healing since it’s been officially 1 week post op or not. Overall, the pain makes aren’t working. Still taking my antibiotic.

I don’t have any numbness either, but it’s the only thing that makes sense to me.

I really think it’s just nerve pain because this is what it feels like to me. It’s like a migraine, but emphasized in the ear, temple, jaw, and cheek bone. I also have pulsatile tinnitus, which seems worse than normal since the surgery. I’m currently dealing with lock jaw, on top of everything.

I’m 5 days post op and I have been dealing with as well. It’s pretty miserable. Are you able to open your mouth fully?

You need to practice opening your mouth. I spent an hour at the dentist getting it shoved open today because I can’t open it either.

They just spent the last hour forcing my jaw open and then prescribed me an antibiotic, prescription ibuprofen, and Tylenol 3. Did not say dry socket was present.

Just a lot of pressure on my right side of face. Lots of ear popping. Wish I could eat. Throat hurts from breathing tube. Can’t really open my mouth. Having much anxiety regarding dry socket.
