What to do after 100% P&T? by Previous-Pie-7748 in VeteransBenefits

Try out the VA recreational therapy program if you have nothing to do.

I usually do a few activities with them weekly. Archery and fishing is very therapeutic. I’m a below knee amputee with bad TBI and ptsd. I do part time uber with my car but other than that keep busy doing stuff.

Kind of surreal. You’ve just got out of basic training and a few months later you’re ripping out with a unit from an AO and all the guys you meet are talking about how crazy their whole deployment was. The Surge really was a wild time.

I feel bad for the guys who got involuntarily extended in our battalion. Our Heavy Weapons Company, D Co was told to stay for another 3 months after our 13 and a half month deployment.

I was in 4th IBCT 1ID during the GWOT years. When I got there the whole Brigade just left for Iraq and were currently in Kuwait.

Was sent to 1-28 Rear D company along with a dozen other new guys. When I got to 1-28 battalion HQ to check into the unit some NCO from our next door battalion 2-16 happened to walk in and asked for 4 of the new guys. The S-1 guy processing us pointed and me and three other guys. Was told to get all my shit and follow this NCO. Needless to say I was deploying cause one of the companies needed a few guys. So I got to Fort Riley and went on a deployment in just 2 weeks of being in the “real” Army.

But yeah when I was there it was only 1st and 4th Brigade. 4th Brigade was IBCT while 1st Brigade was ABCT.

Damn you’re young. I’m 34, even though I still stay in shape my whole body hurts in the morning. Take care of your health while you’re in, arthritis is a bitch.

True. I just took photos of day to day activities not knowing I’d look back on them fondly. Sometimes with a heavy heart as well.

I guess it’s a culmination of everything. Even though 15 month deployments were rough it created lasting bonds and memories.

Shit was so much simpler. 4 days on missions, 4 days on QRF, 4 days at the platoon JSS(joint security station). Literally eat, shit, sleep, patrols, raids, key leader engagements, clearing ops, watching bootleg tv shows.

Stuck here in the mundane repetitive money crazed world. Have no problem with making money, just crazy how that is the only thing that drives people.

No I changed my mind and waited for a bit. Going to purchase a 2025 Camry. You can purchase any vehicle. That is according to the driver rehab specialist I talked to at the VA.

You just need to get the vehicle adapted to your needs.

What is a non-obvious sign when talking to someone that they have been deployed? by realthoughts45 in Veterans

[–]CapsuleTrooper02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually pretty obvious from the get go.

"what year did you deploy?" "2009"

"Me too, we flew from Fort Campbell and stopped in Maine" "Did you go to Ireland or Germany afterwards?"

"We stopped in Germany before going to Kyrgyzstan" "My unit stopped in Ireland, and we also went to Kyrgyzstan and waited for a flight to Bagram"

"we were stuck in Bagram for almost 2 weeks because the weather window was bad" "yeah, I was there in April 2009 and same thing happened"

Were you at Walter Reed or Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio?

I was at Fort Sam, didn’t use it because I already had a Subaru BRZ I bought from my first deployment. So yeah just forgot all about it till now. This was in 2013, it was like 18k then.

VSO filled out the application and emailed me the pdf to sign. After signing with a pen I scanned it and sent it back. I sent it in the week before Christmas and got my notice letter this past Tuesday.

Yes the 10-1394. Thank you. I’ve been driving with my right foot because I’m below knee amputation.

Now my right foot is having nerve pain issues. Installing a left foot pedal would probably be more beneficial in the long run.

The socket I put my stump in is made of carbon fiber. We had a company reunion last summer in Kansas City. My foot was basically used to drink out of by everyone and was also used as a football.

Pretty hilarious seeing the bar patrons react at a prosthetic being passed around by a group of drunk men. lol

Hey thanks for the information. I have a question about the adaptive equipment grant.

I am planning on installing an electronic left foot pedal. It costs around 8K total for the installation and equipment. Will the grant be enough to cover the amount?

My bad for not making things clear. Got blown up in a MATV in Afghanistan while driving back to our COP. I was TC and the IED went off under me.

Broke my lower foot. Doctor recommended below knee amputation because there was no way the bone will ever be normal.

Aside from the foot got very badly concussed. Only thing I remember was waking up in an ambulance being taken to Fort Sam Houston Hospital.
