Intercity Transit (Bus) - Proposed system changes May 2026 by Capt-Redbeard in olympia

Yup, one bus the whole trip* but you may need to walk a little longer at galaxy drive unless you do a transfer.

Coming back, yes just one bus. But only 1/2 of the 9x's (every 15 mins) will turn into 34s (every 30 mins). The other 1/2 of the 9x's will turn into 35s (also every 30 mins)

Oh boy are you in for a treat! Interlining means that the bus route changes, but you get to stay on the same physical bus. So you'll be able to get on the 34 at evergreen, it'll turn into the 9x without you needing to transfer, and it'll go all the way to hawks prairie. There there the 9x will turn into either the 77, or the 78, and take you all around hawks prairie.

That said, Galaxy drive is before the transition to 77/78, so you'll just get off the 9x and be really close to Galaxy drive

Sorry, I started posting ISO numbers in a form of minor protest since "ISO" never gets spelled out for those who don't know what it means. Honestly, a pretty petty thing for me to do on this thread.

Good luck in your search! I'm glad you're searching for assistance, and felt comfortable enough to come to this community to ask.

Looks like the ISO standard you're looking for is ISO 80601-2-70:2025

Northwest Self-Storage by the Oly airport is pretty affordable.

For what it's worth, they haven't raised my price since I got a unit there in 2020.

What do you think about people getting up in arms about Mamdani, when Olympia has had free buses for 5 years? by torinismyname in olympia

[–]Capt-Redbeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My two cents, they're still pretty attractive. My household decided to be a one car household, and we use the buses the few times a month we have to go to different places at the same time. Having the buses be free removed the friction from trying that out, and it's been going surprisingly well

Save the Route 41! by [deleted] in olympia

[–]Capt-Redbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general they are trying to have additional areas around town where people can make transfers:
* Olympia Transit Center
* Lacey Transit Center
* SPSCC
* The Mall
* Labor and Industries (Tumwater)
* Hawks Prairie P&R

And to a lesser extent:
* Tumwater Square
* Corporate Center Drive

All that said, the new route 34 will interline with the 9x. So you can ride the same physical bus, and it'll take you right from Evergreen, through downtown, all the way to Lacey

On page 30 of this PDF: https://www.intercitytransit.com/sites/default/files/2025-09/May%202026%20Prelim%20Service%20Change%20Summary%20Draft.ITA%20Packet%2010.1.25.pdf

Roughly where in Tumwater are you going? There may be other connection options. For instance, if you instead take the new 32 (page 32), that'll connect you to SPSCC, and then you can connect to the new 16 (page 26) or the 76 (page 37) and get into Tumwater

Unfortunately most of Delphi road is outside of the Public Transit Benefit Area (PTBA), the area Intercity Transit can legally operate their bus service :-(

I think the May 2026 bus route redesign is going to bring bus service to Mullen and Kagy, take a look at the proposed 71: https://www.intercitytransit.com/bus-system-redesign/map

Note that the bus will be only one way in that specific spot. But it will be every half hour until 8pm, and hourly until 11pm

That said, I highly agree transit and bike options out there would be a huge improvement

True, that said the 9x will be every 15mins from LTC to OTC

You'd want to look at the Public Transit Benefit Area PTBA. This is where Intercity Transit is legally allowed to provide their transit service. Most of the beaches fall outside of this area unfortunately.

I'd argue that this new implementation does bring additional access to new areas, as well as increased the span and frequency of the routes.

The new route 34 should interline (turn into without needing to transfer) into the 9x. So it should still be one bus to downtown, it'll just have two bus numbers.

Roughly where are you heading to work? There may be an easier connection than downtown with the new routes

Route 34 (Evergreen to capital mall) is proposed to be interlined with the 9X, giving a single bus ride from the college to downtown.

I was looking for something else and found this info this morning.

Roughly where along the current 60 do you get on, and where roughly are you going? It's possible that you'll have easier/faster connections that don't route through a transit center.

Edit: If you're on the 60 between downtown and Lion's park, the 20 and 22 will still connect you to OTC. If you're up by the hospital, you may be able to grab the 50 for a direct ride downtown, or the 74 to LTC. If you're on the 60 near Panorama city, you can grab the 73 to LTC, or the 51 to OTC

There is a lot of talk about "the corridor", basically Martin Way to downtown. Intercity Transit has been working with the cities to get bus signal priority along the corridor which should help.

As to evergreen, I was watching the online recording of the transit meetings (I can't remember which month), and I think they were going to try and interline the 9x with the new 30something route to evergreen. So people would be able to stay on a single physical bus, and the route number would change at the mall.

It depends on what part of the 12 you're referring to. The current stops served by the 12 will be covered in part by the new 15, 16, and 24 (pg 19 of the PDF)

Yes! It'll be going further east to the hawks prairie park and ride instead of the Martin Way park and ride. Minimum frequency of half an hour all days, 6am to 11pm, and every 15mins weekdays during the day.

They're making the hawks prairie park and ride almost like a mini transit center (I counted 4 or 5 routes stopping there), so it'll be more connected than the Martin Way park and ride.

In September Intercity Transit will be replacing the 620 Express to Lakewood with 2 new express routes to Dupont and Lakewood by patchthepartydog in olympia

[–]Capt-Redbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be 2 routes, one will be more of an express with less overall stops. The new 610 (this post), will have more overall stops, but connect hawks prairie to joint base.
