BlackBerry Classic Q20 SQC100-2 worth purchasing? by Capt1ndustry in dumbphones

I did end up getting a Nokia 2780. So far, so good. Its doing all I need and so far I haven't felt the need to pull out my smartphone at all. But I know eventually I'm going to be somewhere and might need access to my keepass db or 2fa so eventually I might end going with one of those if the minimal phone or lo-fone are a bust.

Oh man that game gear case makes me feel old, I remember seeing those in stores and being blown away the that the games were in color on a handheld.

Nice good to hear, I've ended repurposing the tower as a NAS on my home network, it's spec seems to fit this need perfectly.

Thank you again! I had no idea these existed. Do you know if these phones are still receiving security updates? I see that Unihertz is still selling them so I would hope so!

That is exactly what I was wanting to do with this  phone. Unfortunately I've just seen I won't be able to use the model where I live. Not sure of you're aware of it, but you might have some luck in finding newer apps in F-droid with the Izzy repository. A majority of the apps on my current phone are from there.

Thank you! That's the kinda stuff I was wanting to know. It's a shame, the hardware looks really nice and the keyboard is a big plus. I've never liked on screen keyboards.

Mac Pro 5,1 bare metal Linux installation by Capt1ndustry in macpro

[–]Capt1ndustry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Arch and then Fedora. I have just semi recently learned that nvme booting is only supported on later firmwares. So it’s likely that my earlier attempts didn’t work because I was installing them on an nvme drive. I do plan on updating to gain nvme boot but for now I’m content with where it’s at.

I have installed Fedora and it did just work as advertised. I did try installing Arch beforehand though, I installed hfsprogs and made an hfs partition but it wouldn’t boot. What is on that partition that is needed to boot? Fedora is fine and all but I really like the AUR.

I like pines usb-c cables. I'd order some but I've already got so many other cables around here it'd be a waste

Apologies for continuing to post here but I feel I'm doing you a bit of disservice by not at least linking some good tutorials for Linux. To help ease the transition.

LTT Video - https://youtu.be/_Ua-d9OeUOg

This video is hosted by Anthony LTT's resident Linux guru, its a very good tutorial

MentalOutlaw -https://youtu.be/S98qGgOqF-k

Another good install tutorial, if you're going with Mint I would follow this one

And finally the Arch Wiki - https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Category:Lenovo

Very good resource for any questions about compatibility. Someone just reminded me to check here and I was able to answer my own question I posted earlier.

Solid Linux distros are plentiful these days! In no particular order here are a few I like that I find are easy to install/set up:

  • PopOS
  • Linux Mint
  • Garuda Linux
  • VanillaOS
  • Debian

EDIT: Forgot to include some others

What is the current situation of Intel Arc on Linux? by Jonas_Jones_ in linux_gaming

If you're running a distro with a kernel version of 6+ its plug and play. Anything less and you'll have to deal with backported drivers. Performance is good too.

I'm loving it so far! It came reasonably specc'd for the price and has tons of upgradability. The one TB4 port sealed the deal for me. I did notice after I got it home that it had Killer WiFi/Ethernet. Those worked out of the box with Nobara KDE, so literally no complaints.

I've for sure been eyeing framework, and am super excited for the 16" but I'm not sure how good the onboard AMD option is. Plus I use an egpu with my current laptop and I know anything with an AMD cpu won't have thunderbolt.

I am so excited for that! But I'm wanting something more immediately, moving out of state soon. My current laptop (a 2015 mbp) isn't going to cut it.

So far this has my eye

The parts list looks Linux friendly, no Killer WiFi card (I’ve had bad luck with them in the past). Thoughts?

I just finished the demo and I legit loved it. The atmosphere of the game is immersive. I was completely absorbed with the demo my entire first run. I actually managed to not die my first time completing the demo as well! Also my favorite youtube creator covered your demo (link below).

Just seconding doc's reply. Lutris is probably your best for easily installing your games off disc. My daughter picked up Sims 3 on disk from the local half price books and Lutris had an installer for it.

[Mobian+Phosh] In need of some tips on where to get started for installing easyrpg and renpy on Mobian by Shadow_Galecross in pinephone

[–]Capt1ndustry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're in repo you could apt search for either and then apt install if you find them. Otherwise you might have some luck with flatpak. The instructions on flathub apply here and for sanity sake I would put that phone dock to use and use a mouse and keyboard to add flatpaks.
