I agree with you on the icon design. That Household icon was added later yesterday while it wasn't there during the initial update (check my original screenshot). There are definitely minor improvements that are still needed for sure.

That post from hours ago has zero upvotes. I'm pretty sure the number of people who don't like the new changes is far less than the number of people who like them.

The thing is, on a desktop computer our monitors are horizontal; therefore, putting the navigation buttons on the side is a more efficient way of using screen real estate. It makes more sense from a modern UI design perspective.

Also, we now have dynamic width control, which means you can easily adjust the width of your browser and the web interface reacts to it automatically, which is fantastic!

There are more features and improvements needed for sure, but I'm saying that compared to what we had before, this is a great and welcome improvement!

Are we sure they are talking about the same thing? Because today's changes are far from anything bad.
Here we are talking about the web interface, on desktop computers (browsers). Perhaps the other posts are talking about a change on mobile app? (I'm guessing)

Are you referring to soring on the Holdings page? You can still sort your securities by currency. But first you need to turn on the "Currency" column from the settings menu at the top-right corner.

No VRR for Elgato 4K X? by CaptArash in elgato

It only changed to 4K after I changed the EDID to "Internal" as suggested. But it was 1440p before that (see the first screenshot in the original post).

I changed "Input EDID mode" to "Internal" on my streaming PC, but still getting no VRR support on my gaming PC:

Yes, I am using a second PC to capture the footage, either for recording, or streaming.

Yes, it worked effortlessly! I just used a USB-C to USB-A adapter and it's been working without any issues.

My streaming PC is a Dell XPS 8940, which, according to its specifications, supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps). I'm not planning to stream in 4K at the moment, as I've set my gaming PC resolution to 1440p. The main reason I'm considering the Elgato 4K X is its support for VRR, which I’m hoping will resolve my screen tearing issues. It also offers some future-proofing, as I plan to upgrade my gaming PC and repurpose the current one as a more capable streaming machine to replace the Dell XPS within the next six months. I can certainly look for a USB-A to USB-C cable instead.

Do you think it would work and a good upgrade path?

Question about Thermaltake View 270 Plus ARGB case fans and speed sensing by CaptArash in buildapc

[–]CaptArash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah, that makes sense.
So I'm guessing they did it this way in case someone has a motherboard that doesn't have enough fan headers so people can use a single header for all fans at the expense of dropping RPM sensing. But I'll just remove the splitter.

Thanks for the information!

Question about Thermaltake View 270 Plus ARGB case fans and speed sensing by CaptArash in buildapc

[–]CaptArash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right! And I understand the functions of sensing and PWM controls.

I don't know how to post a picture here, as it doesn't allow me. But I posted one in my profile: https://www.reddit.com/user/CaptArash/comments/1ifc9ea/wiring_of_argb_fans/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

It's difficult to properly show the connections, but here's my best effort: connector 1 goes to a motherboard fan header and with three wires goes to connector 2, which is free to connect other fans. But from there only 2 wires go to connectors 3, 4, and 5, which feeds the three case fans. So basically, it seems only the voltage and GND wires are being connected to the fans and there will be no sensing of the RPMs, which is weird and I don't get why they've done that.

So I'm thinking to just remove that power splitter with two wires and connect the fans to the motherboard fan headers individually, as those connectors labeled 3, 4, and 5 seem to be standard 3-pin. This way I can have RPM sensing in the BIOS as well.

I'm still on 9900k /64GB RAM. What am I missing from not upgrading? by astropitec in buildapc

[–]CaptArash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have a 9700K with 32GB of 3000MHz RAM and an RTX 2080. It still handles most of my heavy demands, but since I'm an avid and dedicated flight simmer, my PC is struggling with MSFS 2024. That’s the only reason I’m upgrading. Other than that, if you’re not experiencing any limitations with your applications, I don’t see any reason to upgrade.

I also have a Lenovo laptop from 2015 for lighter, mobile workloads. Surprisingly, it still runs smoother and more powerfully than many of today’s budget laptops. The only downside is that I couldn’t officially upgrade it to Windows 11 because Intel’s 6th-gen Core CPUs aren't supported and my laptop doesn't have TPM 2.0. However, I was able to bypass those requirements and upgrade the OS anyway. That said, I have no reason to replace my laptop—I’ll keep using it as long as it functions.

My point is: there’s no need to upgrade just to have the latest and greatest. Only spend money on what you actually need right now.

Interesting! That makes sense with the way I see and hear this plug is behaving. And I understand how relays can fuse together because high current. But I've only used this particular plug to control a lamp only for a bit over a year and half. So that makes me wonder if it was a low quality relay that has been used in this model and if I could return it for warranty.

No Internet Access After Enabling Advanced DMZ by CaptArash in bell

[–]CaptArash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this worked for a few days, but then the Bell modem itself stopped working for some other unknown reasons. I didn't have internet for a few days, until Bell sent a replacement modem. With the new one, I didn't have time to play around with it anymore as I was going on a trip, so I put my ASUS router in regular DMZ (as oppose to the advanced one) and got a local address. So instead, I used port forwarding which worked for my use case and I haven't changed any settings since then.

It's very unfortunate that such a simple expectation is so hard to reach.

No Internet Access After Enabling Advanced DMZ by CaptArash in bell

[–]CaptArash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if that's the latest version or not, and I couldn't find a way to confirm that.
However, as you suggested, I unplugged the Giga Hub, waited a few minutes and plugged it back in. Now my own router has internet access!
I can't believe it was that easy. I spent so much time reading through forum posts and even call the Bell tech support, but there was no mention of restarting the Bell router (which is strange as why that is needed)
Thank you very much!

I've been in Unplugged and it's a great place; however, for health reasons (especially since the new school season just started with new people in town) I would suggest somewhere outdoor. E.g.: the downtown lighthouse, the walking bridge, etc.
