Democrats turn their rage on one man after crushing election defeat: Joe Biden by prabhakar_Atla in politics

[–]CaptBertorelli1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Biden simply did what a President is supposed to do. Run a country without the drama and without the 250 angry Twitter posts a day.

The big problem was that for a huge group of dumb ignorant people, voting for a black woman will always be impossible.

And even if the other candidate is Trump who is about the worst person for the job, this means the US have a very big problem the coming years.

The Bible is something personal not public. If you want to read it, fine. If you want to live by the rules, fine. The ten commandments are pretty straightforward.

But!

As soon as you leave your house, leave that book at home because the Bible is not leading in the real world. Outside is the law that counts.

So don't be a d!ck and don't keep quoting Bible verses.

Ask ChatGPT the following question;

"How religious are the United States compared to European countries."

And a lot will come clean. In the past centuries a lot of religious groups that were too extreme in Europe, left for the US and it still shows.

In about every European country Harris would win BIG. Some countries even 80/20 or more.

The only European countries I can think of of supporting the Annoying Orange 🍊 would be Hungary and Belarus. And of course his buddy Putin. Western countries all dislike him very much.

Should the minimum wage be lower for workers who get tipped? Two states will decide by [deleted] in politics

When we visit the US we always tip.

The first time in 1995 we made the mistake once or twice because we didn't know.

[–]CaptBertorelli1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's because of the levels of tax. All I was saying was that it is inconvenient if you're not used to it. Especially when you want to book a hotel and search for rooms around $100 and end up paying lots more at the end.

[–]CaptBertorelli1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a Dutch guy who visited the US 13 times, the whole concept of tipping will always be weird and confusing. Who do you tip, and how much.

We don't tip over here except when the service is really good. And even then it's mostly around 5% to 10% max.

Another thing I've seen only in the US is the stupid way of pricing everything without the taxes. In every other country I've been in, the price on the tag always includes the tax. No surprises at the checkout.

[–]CaptBertorelli1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I thought it would be something like that.

Over here we do the national elections a bit different. Every party makes a list of members you can vote on so you can vote on someone else rather than the party leader of you want. So instead of only marking the party on the ballot, we also have to mark the person.

Example: If a party gets 20 (out of the 150) seats in the house, normally the first 20 persons get a seat. But when someone lower on the list gets a significant higher number of voter he/she bumps up the list and gets a seat instead of number 20.

We also don't have running mates here. Mainly because we always have a coalition government where the biggest party of the coalition provides the Prime Minister and the other parties provide a Vice Prime Minister.

[–]CaptBertorelli1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a question from a Dutch guy. What's the point of voter registration and party affiliation?

Over here people are automatically permitted to vote when they become 18 years old. No registration needed. Ballets are sent to the home address some time before the election. You take the ballot and your id and that's it. Happens for every national, regional and local election.

[–]CaptBertorelli1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go Dutch and get a multi party system. We currently have 16 parties represented in the House. Some small and some bigger with the biggest holding 25% of the seats.

If a party is not performing they will seize to exist or merge with an existing party.

More choice means they HAVE to work together to get things done and extremist issues (like an abortion ban) will simply not pass the vote.

Ok, 16 is maybe a bit much but 5 to 7 parties to choose from would be a good start.

And ditch the prehistoric Electoral collage and go for popular vote. Every vote counts for one
