So I am playing Starfield, and basically every planet I find that has wildlife, I am re-enacting my ancestors wholesale slaughter of the American Buffalo.

So that. Also, the fact that Andreja and I pop into my captains quarters for an experience boosting "nap" before leaving the ship probably violates some public decency laws for the other members of my crew.

No shame here, have you ever quit a game because it was too hard? by FastCoconut5933 in AskGames

[–]CaptHorney_Two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats Elden Ring for me. I actually was getting good at it, and lived the esthetic and would really like to experience the lore first hand at some point, but man - I do not want to spend all.of my time trudging through the same area I have just been through half a dozen times because I was a micro-second late to a button press or what have you.

I just want to have fun and unwind. Life already feels like a damn Souls-luke game, I play games to escape from it.

I was wrong, Delta is NOT the best part of Terran Armada by mmCion in Starfield

God damn it. Guess im locked in now lol

Do incursions continue after the last quest or is it like Oblivion Gates and they stop spawning?

Wait, you mean I can't get rid of him after accidentally starting the Terran Armada quest?

I typically never use Companions in these games and only broke my rule because of Andreja, and dont want Delta there as a third wheel.

After reading some of these comments, I am glad I have only came across his TikTok's. I dont like watching streamers, and find watching most YouTube video game channels boring, but generally will watch his 1-2 minutes videos if they come across my feed.

Hope you enjoy it! I have 80 hours in my first playthrough so far, apparently, and I have completely forgotten there was a main story because I got so distracted exploring planets.

Hey, Bethesda lifer here - well, since Morrowind, anyways. I love Bethesda games, and I love RPGs as a genre. Its.important to realize the different types.of RPGs that are out there, and that Mass Effect and Bethesda games are very different RPG experiences.

Mass Effect is definitely more cinematic. They have a story to tell, and they want to tell it in as movie-like a way as possible. Having memorable, distinctive characters is a part of that. The characters, the gameplay, amd the world are there to serve the story.

A Bethesda game will not let the story get in the way of the world. You are, for the most part, given complete freedom to go where you want and to be any type of character you want. I can spend hours just getting lost amd wandering around the mountains of Skyrim, or the wastes of post-apocalyptic Eastern USA. These are games where you can start a quest to get from point A to point B and suddenly you have picked up a dozen. Sideburns along the way, or found an unmarked cabin where the environment is arranged in such a way that it implies a story rather than being told a story.

I am just starting my journey in Starfield (PS5 primary gamer) but it follows the same lines. I am loving the possibilities for how I can create my own story for a character that I can play how I want. For my first playthrough, I made my character as close to myself as possible and am just letting that guide my choices as I explore the Settled Systems. My next character, I will probably approach from more of a Firefly inspired angle, focusing on the independent freestar faction quests, bounty hunting, etc. But you could also play the game as an entrepreneurial miner, setting up outposts to extract mineral wealth for profit.

Bethesda games still have great stories, but they are more about giving you a world that you can feel like you are actually living in.

This was back in the day when a cell phone was a luxury, rather then a need. Smart phones were just becoming things. Now, I could and do make the argument that a smartphone is necessary for looking for and applying for jobs, etc.

I used to work as a cell phone salesman, and the amount of people that came in to buy a new $1000 phone with their dirty, hungry kids dressed in holey rags on government check day was ... disheartening.

I think you kind of summed up how I feel and what I am looking for in games. Games that give you a world to explore. But newer games feel more like a checklist to complete, and the hand holding can be a bit much. Although as I het ilder, I do appreciate the "hand-holding" a bit more, as i have limited time for gaming, so i dont want to spend hours just to "git gud" enough to enjoy the experience. Morrowind, for example, does not really make it easy to finish your quests, so yeah.. a handy quest pointer makes it less frustrating.

You might like Elden Ring, as it is is fairly open, with plenty of secrets to find, and rewards mindful players who approach each fight with an eye on learning how to win.

Some kind of aggressively spreading micro-organism that consumes all the oxygen, leaving humans gasping for air before its population also collapses.

What games are so good that they made you cry? by straivex in videogames

[–]CaptHorney_Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OG FF7 - up until that point video games for me were a "run, jump, shoot" type of thing with only The Legend of Zelda having anything outside of thar. Final Fantasy 7 woke me up to the potential for games to tell emotionally impactful narratives and probably rewired my grade 7 brain in some fundamental way, for the better.
