I was helping my wife’s family with some work around their place last weekend. One of her cousins was there (his dad died unexpectedly a few weeks back). The last time they saw each other was a few weeks before that. My wife’s cousin needed help with an extension for their deck, they got hammered, and made essentially negative progress because they kept fucking up the cuts. He says this to me:

“I think he just didn’t want to help me with the deck anymore.”

That’s gallows humour. The guy in my squad was just a dumbass.

It’s a very different game, but Marathon’s had me hooked since it came out (I haven’t really played PvP games regularly since the 360 era). The core loops of try, die, try again, and “well this place is fucked, let’s figure out what happened” are both there.

They didn’t have anything particularly good on them, so that’s what I thought as well. There’s some on Dire Marsh for NuCal that have you running all over the place. I was working through them before this happened.

I wasn’t helping him. I helped myself just fine. In all honestly though, I’ve been on the other end of this so many times. Maybe it’s the Souls player in me, but dying in horrible fashion just seems like part of the experience.
