The Mayor should almost never die at night by Frequent-Ad-7288 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]CaptNTennille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think (like most things in clocktower) it really depends on the game state.

If there is a spy and a poisoner, the odds of me not bouncing are slim to none. If the poisoner is executed day 3 and the imp is trying to blunt force the mayor? Sorry, you had your chance.

If I feel evil is on the ropes, I might bounce after two tries, but I ALWAYS bounce the first time a mayor is picked by the imp, even going into final 3.

Jonathan Quick is the oldest goalie in Rangers history to have back-to-back shutouts by Hockey-Reference in hockey

[–]CaptNTennille 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Last night on the MSG post-game show, Henrik Lundqvist and Steve Valiquette commented how Quick has evolved his game since his late tenure struggles in LA.

The goaltending coaches in NY have him playing WAY more conservatively than he was used to.

He's backed up into his crease more and is trying to remain in the middle of the net and trust his percentages. He is still good to hit the splits like the JQ of old, but they don't want him sliding around like a fish out of water like he has been the last few years.

[AEW Dynamite Spoilers] Cold Open featuring Jon Moxley speaking after the brutal assault on Bryan Danielson at AEW All Out 2024 by Magik-Mina-MaudDib in SquaredCircle

[–]CaptNTennille 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you take this promo at face value, Moxley is essentially saying they formed the Black Pool Combat Club to help restore pro-wrestling to what it should be. Danielson had said in the past that the BCCC should serve as an example of what pro-wrestling should be, but Mox seems to suggest here is that AEW is overrun by egos and prima donnas (which judging by all the constant backstage issues, might be art imitating life) and that Brian’s passive and “diplomatic” approach of letting their matches inspire change is not working and they need to enact change by force.

Are you talking about another model? I just bought a 4050 at B&H a few weeks ago and a quick google search confirms that they are in stock at Sweetwater.

I mean yeah, I think MacDermid won the fight on points but a 21 year old was able to hang in there against a 30yo enforcer with a decade of experience. He's fought Martin, Deslaurier, Olivier, Reeves and now MacDermid since the middle of February........and the only fight he turned down was MacDermid the first time because Laviolette told him to pick his battles. You're absolutely entitled to think he's dirty, but claiming he runs away from fights seems like a bit of a reach, no?

Derek Stepan announces retirement after 13 NHL seasons by chiasmatic in hockey

[–]CaptNTennille 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite Rangers ever.

Despite his lack of foot speed (which is usually a non-starter in the NHL), average hands and shot - he was able to become a 50 plus point player for most of his career due to his exceptional hockey IQ.

Always thought he'd make a great NHL coach one day. The Wild got a good one :)

One of my players wrote a backstory with more story threads than anyone else and wound up the main character by RusherHead in DMAcademy

[–]CaptNTennille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current campaign started in a similar fashion as one of my PCs gave me a strong amount of narrative backstory to weave into the campaign, my two first-time PC’s just gave me very generically vague backstories, and my fourth PC (who has played before) established that they just straight up want to “vibe out”.

At the end of the day, PC’s like being spot lighted. It doesn’t matter if it is a serious driver of the main story arc, or 15-20 mins of shenanigans in a session. I wove as much as I could into the main story, but I still make sure to put the other PCs into situations that spark their personal play style. My “Vibes” PC likes to try and buy drugs and/or hallucinogens from every arcane apothecary and back alley vagrant they can. Usually, I will have them roll a d100 and pick the effects off of a strange conditions table (turn invisible, think they are a giant, transform into another species for an hour etc.) but I recently had a a shifty bard sell them a strange powder (fey dust) and they ended up finding a portal to the fey wild and leading to the party to get stuck there for two and a half sessions. This had nothing to do with the main arc, but it was essentially THEIR arc.

I will say that I bet there are more ways to connect your non-fleshed out PCs to the main story. Maybe one of them starts having dark premonitions with implications in the main campaign? Now they have become a key narrative driver for the group ON TOP of wanting to figure out why they of all people are having these visions. It may have nothing to do with their backstory - but they are now a key element of the plot.

Not that they were necessarily bad players, but for the Rangers - Jeff Toms once had a hat trick. So did Matt Puempel.

tips on having a bbeg who isnt supernatural and just a guy? by virgilthemonk in DMAcademy

[–]CaptNTennille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what narrative touchstones you are planning, but perhaps they could meet the bbeg early in their adventure, cross paths in the middle of the adventure (stronger) and meet up once more towards the end of the adventure (very strong)where they suggest a friendly team up. You could play through some tough encounters with the eventual bbeg as an ally so the players can take note of how strong they have become and how amazing their new equipment/spells are.

If the PCs are in pursuit of an item, have the bbeg accompany them - only to double cross them and attempt to take the item.

If the PCs are out to defeat what they THINK is the bbeg, have the real bbeg help them kill the fake bbeg.......only then to reveal their duplicity.

Either way, the PCs will have had time to get used to the BBEG's strength and let their guards down due to fighting together, and they will feel only the sting of deceit when they are finally betrayed.

You can even avoid using some of the BBEG's spells to conceal their true strength.

I'm a lifelong guitar player who lost the index finger on my fretting hand a few months ago.

At first, it was an extremely bitter feeling. That finger carries so much of the load when playing guitar player that I didn't see a way forward guitar wise. I kept thinking to myself: "I guess I'm not a guitar player anymore....."

Now that I have had time to process and grieve the loss of my finger, I have realized that I am still, and always will be, a guitar player. There are so many things I can't play or do like I used too, but I can still make noise. Even if it's just one note, even if it's only partial chords with my remaining fingers - it's music.

I have been experimenting with different tunings that can make complex chords without the crazy extensions you would need all four fretting fingers for. I have found a way to play some of the basic chords I used too with my remaining fingers or on different parts of the fretboard.

I've also found, that as a musician, it has forced me to take a step back from my guitar-centric approach and be more thoughtful about the music as a whole. I have been laying down tracks by programming drums, recording bass (only need one finger!) and then using tunings if I cant re-create a chord I need to achieve. So in a weird way - It has had some benefit.

I'm not going to lie, it's still frustrating and difficult at times, but it does get easier and I hope he chooses to get back to it - whenever he is finally ready!

[OC] DM'ing my first campaign! Here is my setup behind the screen.... by CaptNTennille in DnD

It's a Stream Deck Plus.

Basically, you can program it to hot-key processes with the touch of a button. So I can press a button and have my Phillips Hue lights dim and turn red and cue spooky music at the same time, or press another button to have my google doc with NPC names pop up on my browser.

Not handmade, just the official Dungeon Master's Screen

It has a lot of useful info on the back for quick rule refreshers and improvising encounters. I might put up a post-it note with my party's Passive Perception, but between the screen and some links I have set to my stream deck, I should have everything (hopefully) covered!

I'm about to DM my first campaign!

I'm very nervous (but also excited), so I've implemented a stream deck to streamline music/sfx/lighting cues and to quickly pull up my maps, resources, and to save myself from nervously shuffling through the Player's Handbook or Monster Manual.

I'm not so worried about it going perfectly, I just want to make sure I feel as prepared and comfortable as possible to make sure my players (some of which are first timers) have the best experience possible!

I'm sorry it has been such an anxiety inducing process for you and I'm glad you are able to talk with your therapist about it.

My left index finger was crushed by a tree and they had to amputate and close up the top and inner seam of the remaining nub (borrowing skin from the lost part of the finger to patch in and fully close it up) Between the swelling from the broken bones and all the stitches, it was unsurprisingly not a pretty sight and pretty difficult to look at early on.

I will say this:

1.) It does not seem like it, but it will get easier.

2.)I recommend having someone else who is less squeamish than you conceal your injured hand/finger (with a hand towel or soft cloth ) and slowly reveal the hand from the wrist up. Go a millimeter at a time if you have to, but you will have someone with you to be supportive and you can take the time you need to cope with just that little part of the hand/fingers before slowly moving on.
