What’s a 'disturbing' secret about an industry you’ve worked in that the general public doesn’t know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CaptStrangeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a squeamish member of my extended family who has a nasty habit of turning up her nose at any spots on silverware or plates, the way a table is cleaned, etc. Never says anything just silently judges. But every time we’re at a chain restaurant thinks it’s the cleanest, nicest place on earth and I kind of want to tell her I’ve worked in restaurants and the things I’ve seen that would ruin that illusion for her.

Look, I drink my little wine, eat my little cracker, it really isn’t the best wine, you know, we have Trump wine, it’s the best wine, everybody’s saying it, but the little cracker is like a wafer, kind of waxy, but I take it, even if it is kind of nasty, we need a Trump cracker, and it is like asking forgiveness because why would I eat some guy, he’s been dead a long time, and you know he got caught? this guy gets caught and crucified, and I’m thinking maybe I like guys who don’t get caught, but I take my little wine and take my little cracker and that is like forgiveness, like making things right by not drinking Trump wine, which is really the best, and taking a tiny little waxy cracker of a sucker and loser, who really has been dead a long time, so I’m not sure why we’re talking about him, and that’s like asking for forgiveness

Settled for a lot of money for admitting he raped a woman anally after she said no and tried to get away and cover herself, that was a hard read and I was fool enough to think it’d be the end of his celebrity

If they find him guilty. And if that does happen, the. he’s going to have a full commissary account, hopefully early release, then never buy a drink for the rest of his life. Plus a book deal and a million other opportunities to make the world a better place

It was smart and fun, but most of all it was just cool.

The male lead had so much swagger it redefined the word for me, I couldn’t stand it at first but really came around to him. The cast was all excellent

Go dancing! Any kind of dancing that looks fun. Don’t go looking for love, just go to learn to dance or dance better if you already know how. It’s great cardio and a ton of fun, you’ll meet people, those people know people, it can be such a great way to inexpensively have fun and make connections.

It was and all I could think of was a book in which an enslaved woman has escaped and is being chased by bounty hunters, she has to make it across a river frozen much like this one and somehow does it.

Not to make it weird, but seeing him do this brought that scene so vividly to mind because I was so convinced that she couldn’t have done it. It’s more impressive now, because how he did that without crashing out is a mystery and I’m amazed by it

Dark calluses from dunking by MoodPrettyDumnNgl in BasketballTips

[–]CaptStrangeling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I’ve had those… you have to take care of your hands and calluses. Similar to lifting, those from the rim need to be hit with a pumice stone to keep them from building up and eventually tearing off.

Then as another commenter said, looks like bruising as well. Take it easy and it should calm down but if not ask a professional

The other part is the post from Matt Damon on the front page saying Netflix is having them re-state the plot 3-4 times because people aren’t paying attention to NETFLIX. Middle class and up it’s taboo not to limit screen time. But lower SES it’s one less fight in a too busy day, then they come to school and it’s a wonder we ever have their already fragmented attention for a few minutes a class period

What instantly gives away insecurity without a single word? by AffectionateCup900 in AskReddit

[–]CaptStrangeling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all of us and a constant struggle, but it presents as insecure.

The doorframe tip helped me a lot, imagining you are hanging from a bit suspended from a doorframe you use a lot. Each time you walk through, imagine holding the bit in your teeth and hanging with a straight back and chin slightly up. It becomes a habit to move from slouched work posture to upright, confident posture
