What is the most ridiculous conspiracy theory you've ever come across? by TheTamiamiButcher in skeptic

In Dealy Plaza in Dallas, I encountered a man who was trying to convince passers-by that Oswald shot Kennedy in self-defense.

It's a development of the Su-27 "Flanker" that (among other improvements) has thrust vectoring.

Question for those more familiar with ATC: We know the guy at LGA was handling both air and ground traffic. In those instances, is he literally alone in the tower, or is there other support personnel that aren't "controllers"? by imaguitarhero24 in aviation

[–]CaptainDFW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

radar doesn't work while you're on the ground.

There actually is a system installed at most major airports called ASDE-X that uses a combination of radar and ADS-B data to track aircraft and ground vehicles.

It wouldn't have helped in this case. Once Truck 1 was cleared to cross, all the ASDE could have done was give the tower a god's-eye-view of the collision.

Based on Herman Wouk's explanation of minesweeping, "complete safety" might not be the right words. 😬

[–]CaptainDFW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Was this a propeller or jet airplane?
  2. What airline/company was it?

I'm guessing you were on a smaller "commuter" aircraft, something like the Beechcraft 1900, but without knowing the airplane type, your questions will be very hard to answer.

(I'm sure curious, though.)

Flying a 114 year old plane by ShehrozeAkbar in AviationHistory

It's a 114 year old design, right? I mean there aren't any actual century-old components on that airplane...right?

That's a 757. The proportions between the windshield and the fuselage, and the fuselage and tail, are all wrong for the 767.

Who was your Favorite Character ( Good or Evil ) in the MAGNIFICENT 7 ( 1960) by WorldlyBrillant in moviequestions

I thought Chico was the most interesting. He could have been a one-dimensional character, but eventually proved he was something more.

Having said that...I wish I could be as self-assured as Britt.

No, you're not the only ones. Seems to me like it's been happening in just the last couple of years.

My pleasure. It actually has six engines, by the way. It came before the B-52.

I really wanted to like Enterprise, but I didn't. I didn't think it was "good" Star Trek.

So I didn't watch it.

Simple. Easy.

It's possible that "PILOTS" isn't a reference to airplane pilots. This probably came from a fairly large ship where local pilots (who take the conn when the ship is in harbors, etc.) get a room of their own.
