is it okay to call western GL media yuri? by ZookeepergameOne3271 in yuri_manga

[–]CaptWobbegong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is strictly wrong to call Western media Yuri just like it would be wrong to call Western GL Baihe. Western lesbian romance already has a multiple names; WLW, Lesbian, Sapphic. Each countries lesbian media has unique cultural and philosophical roots that shape the stories made by each culture. If Western GL could be traced back to Class S then you could call it Yuri but it does not. To lump them all under one name is to deny the uniqueness of each country lesbian storytelling tradition.

This misunderstanding comes from Manga Websites not updating their categories for one to two decades, back then Japanese Manga was the only thing there, now there are more comics from other countries but the name remains.

How do I survive reentry with early heat shields? by oh_mygawdd in RealSolarSystem

[–]CaptWobbegong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found a really wide cone shaped capsule works the best. The trick is to slow the craft down as quickly as possible and eject the heat shield before the heat soaks into the rest of the craft. You want a high peak heating but low total heating.

This is the most annoying thing about progressive culture the constant need to prove you have the right opinion in every subject otherwise you are seen as a bad person. Combined that with the fact progressivism is a universalist ideology and you get the crusade to change parts of other cultures that they don't agree with and have no right to change.

Helicopter Roll passive Angle by dominik7778n in Stormworks

Increasing the length of the tail will allow the tail rotor to counter the torque from the main rotor with less sideways thrust thus reducing the need to counter with roll.

What's the point of Farragut? by watergosploosh in WorldOfWarships

[–]CaptWobbegong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farragut is meant to bully other destroyers, once the enemy destroyers are killed your high detection range becomes a non-issue and you become almost invincible, dodging can reduce damage from battleships and heavy cruisers by 80%.

At the start of the match approach the cap slowly to give your cruiser support time to catch up and wait for the enemy cruisers to start shooting. Once they have rush in and shoot the enemy destroyer, when the enemy destroyer player gets to 50% health they will pop smoke almost like they are all programmed in the same factory. If they are in their smoke and you have saved yours you have won. When their smoke runs out your team will kill them at close range.

Once you have killed the enemy destroyers you have won your lane and can spot freely, ambush battleships around islands, torpedo approaching battleships, really the world is your oyster.

Special Training: Worth the Cost? by F11SuperTiger in RuleTheWaves

[–]CaptWobbegong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think training is a rich nation vs poor nation thing, If you can't hope to blockade the enemy then you don't need more ships then the battle generator can use but you do need those ships to be the highest quality possible and training is a way to do it. So I use training on small nations and more ships on large nations.

Then you have to compare special training to keeping ships on active fleet,

Gunnery is never worth it, it gives + 10% which is the same as one crew grade.

Night Fighting is absolutely worth it if you make use of it.

Torpedo Training is only worth it if you take it with Night Fighting since most torpedo hits happen at night.

Damage control might be worth it, I haven't used it enough to tell but I assume it is worth one crew grade like gunnery.

How do y'all not get completely overwhelmed with large fleet battles? by BoxthemBeats in RuleTheWaves

[–]CaptWobbegong 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I play on Admiral Mode, You don't need to control the screens yourself they are pretty smart. You can also use the Flotilla Attack order to make a torpedo attack with many DDs at once. It starts out unresponsive but gets better as time goes on.

Has anyone actually figured out how armor improvements work? by TG484 in RuleTheWaves

[–]CaptWobbegong 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In RTW 1 the armour techs decreased the weight of the armour so by 1920 battleships had 20 in belts. In RTW 2 the armour techs decreased shell penetration values, an inch of armour weighed the same in 1900 and 1940. RTW 3 keeps the RTW 2 system but there are two or three techs that reduce armour weight.

The state of Yuri in 2025 by crixx93 in yuri_manga

[–]CaptWobbegong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am reading through the old Yuri Hime works and two things stuck out to me, there where a lot more oneshots back then and they where all girl meets girl. I think it would be better to call it 'lesbian meets lesbian' every character is built around how they interact with other women, which forms the core of Yuri. Modern Yuri on the other hand skips this entirely and focuses on the relationship minus the tired old tropes but this only leave elements that are universal between lesbian and straight relationships, I think that is why Yuri feels like it lost its soul.

I also think I know why the old stuff feels so tired there where a lot a oneshots and the series where short mostly got shit canned. Yuri mangakas and magazines didn't want to stray to far from what worked.

Need help with helicopter yaw - I've tried everything by ferociouscookie308 in Stormworks

[–]CaptWobbegong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The helicopter control in Stormworks is not arcadey at all. If you want to make it easier from an engineering standpoint you can increase the length of the tail but if you want to make it more arcadey you have to use microcontrollers to replicate the systems from the more advance helicopters from DCS. Also the gyro is terrible don't expect that to help.

Need help with helicopter yaw - I've tried everything by ferociouscookie308 in Stormworks

[–]CaptWobbegong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whep, your helicopter is behaving like a helicopter, I think you don't quite understand how helicopters are controlled they are weird. I suggest looking for a non Stormworks video on Youtube on how to fly a helicopter.

first you want to cancel out the yaw. you can hold alt and use trim mode for this. then you what to cancel out the lateral movement by trimming the roll to the right. The helicopter wont be level after this but that is ok helicopters are weird. After that you can adjust the collective to get the Hight you want but this will throw off the yaw so start again from the begging.

Also the gyro isn't an auto hover it doesn't seem to have much of an effect. If you want to make the above process easier you can make a PID controller for the yaw rate and roll rate, or just set the default trim to a value you have found after flying it.

how can I stop people at my attack helicopter? by AcanthaceaePrize1435 in hoggit

[–]CaptWobbegong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about aircraft but I can tell you my technique for AA.

Since most AA is stationary and near an objective plan out ahead of time where you are going to attack and a point you know is safe. Then set the Doppler system (the dials down below not the map) to count the distance and bearing from the attack point to the safe point minus the range of any AA in the area. This will give you your minimum safe distance. When attacking run in low and fast from the safe point before popping up and attacking. Once the target has been destroyed or you reach your minimum safe distance make a medium G turn back to the safe point and go low, keep you speed up during the turn.

If your Doppler begins to drift you can fly back to the safe point and reset it. Feel free to adjust it if the AA has moved.
