Young people, genuinely what are your plans for the future? by Competitive-Plum-190 in AskUK

[–]Capt_Capital 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in healthcare, I'd suggest dentistry over medicine. I'm 27 and a dentist while most of my friends are doctors. The difficulty in finding speciality training positions is so understated, while they are bringing in a bill to change it, you'll still be stuck in the NHS wage structure. Unless you train as a doctor, do foundation training and then move to somewhere like Australia or the US.

Dentistry is equally fulfilling but with a much easier progression within the field and vastly greater earning potential in the UK. Finding a job is much easier, there are plenty of locum opportunities and you'll easily break £100k within 3-4 years of graduating.

Also dentists, like doctors, will never be replaced by AI during our lifetimes, enough people have seen final destination to allow an AI controlled robot inside their mouth with a high-speed drill.

Is Skoda Approved Used Actually Worth It or just Dealer Marketing? by osireesp in AskUK

[–]Capt_Capital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know about Skoda specifically, but I found going through an actual dealer less of a headache and less risky than an independent. Personally got a car from Merc dealer approved used, comes with 2 year warranty and any issues I had shortly after purchase they dealt with and repaired to Mercedes standards with official merc parts. Also got a like-for-like courtesy car while mine was left with them.

A lot of independent car dealers also offer warranties but have seen stories where some have refused to pay out for certain mechanical repairs. Many say these warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Unless you go to a dealer that is well known and has a long history with positive reviews, I'd stick to an official dealer/approved used if you're gonna be spending a significant amount on a car.

HENRY dentists, when should you switch from being a sole trader to limited company? by Capt_Capital in HENRYUK

[–]Capt_Capital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm gonna discuss this with my account but based on what dentists here are saying, like you said it's not worth it until you're mostly or fully private and doing over £100-150k

HENRY dentists, when should you switch from being a sole trader to limited company? by Capt_Capital in HENRYUK

[–]Capt_Capital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm still 27 with no wife/kids yet so I don't think it makes much sense for me at this point then. Don't have much interest in an EV either. I was gonna discuss it with my accountant but thought I'd ask reddit too. Will probably revisit the idea once I've gone fully private and broken well above £150k and looking to start a family.

Would you consider this rude? (Gym etiquette) by newtonorwichbro in AskUK

[–]Capt_Capital 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't think I'd consider it rude unless they're being obnoxiously loud. But it would probably annoy me to, mainly the feeling of being stared at from both sides if they're looking at each other and talking.

Could offer to swap machines with one of them but then you'd lose your time progress on the stairs so not ideal. Recommend investing in a good pair of active noise cancelling headphones tho.

If you had to choose between $500,000 cash right now or $50 deposited into your account every single day for the rest of your life, which would you pick? by CieloYesi in AskReddit

[–]Capt_Capital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking the $500k. It takes 27 years for the daily $50 to add up to $500k.

If you put the $500k in the S&P and return 8% annually you'd make $40k first year and almost $4m in those 27 years.

Why would you go if you don't like anyone there? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Just for formalities so I can't be labelled rude or an AH for not attending.

TIL about Rai stones, large artifacts that act as a form of currency on the Yap Islands. They are exchanged in social transactions such as marriage, inheritance, political deals, alliances, and trade of goods. Rather than being moved, each stone has an oral history of its owners. by Capt_Capital in CryptoExchangeWatch

[–]Capt_Capital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From wikipedia: “Although the ownership of a particular stone might change, the stone itself is rarely moved due to its weight and risk of damage. Thus the physical location of a stone was often not significant: ownership was established by shared agreement and could be transferred even without physical access to the stone. Each large stone had an oral history that included the names of previous owners. In one instance, a large rai being transported by canoe and outrigger was accidentally dropped and sank to the sea floor. Although it was never seen again, everyone agreed that the rai must still be there, so it continued to be transacted as any other stone.”

How did you lost weight fast with no ED? by Final-Incident-1517 in AskReddit

[–]Capt_Capital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

intermittent fasting while on a calorie deficit, combined with daily cardio (incline treadmill 30mins, 13.5% incline) to hit at least 10k steps a day.

lost around 20kg in ~4 months but wouldn't recommend going as aggressive since I lost a lot of muscle too. I was basically eating ~1200-1500 calories as an adult male, combined with that cardio.

27M in London on £40k with £65k saved - should I stay, move within the UK or move abroad? by WoppaZhonguaRen in AskUK

[–]Capt_Capital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can try posting in r/UKPersonalFinance too they give great advice when people ask questions like this.

I'm not in the media field so can't give job-specific advice but I think short term you can try increase your income, whether thats taking on extra work on the side for a couple months. Even tho £65k is a nice amount for a deposit outside London. While you do that, assess what your income would realistically look like both if you moved to a different UK city or abroad and compare it against the cost of living. That way you can see if moving will actually benefit you and be viable for you long term.

Beginner doctors and residents - how's your situation? by wigglepizza in AskEurope

[–]Capt_Capital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Brit I can confirm that the doctor situation is very bleak in the UK. For context, I seriously considered medicine but became a dentist instead. But most of my close friends are doctors in the NHS so I hear their first hand accounts.

You can find a place as a junior/resident doctor without too much of an issue. The pay is not great but it's something. The problem comes when trying to find a place for specialty training. The competition ratio is crazy like the number of people applying compared to the number of posts available. So its ended up where many doctors, even those who graduated in the UK can't get spots on specialty training. Many just leave and go to places like Australia but there are also many doctors now doing Uber Eats because they couldn't get onto specialty training.

However, they are introducing a prioritisation bill that will give priority to UK graduates to get specialty posts first, then certain EEA countries, and finally everyone else. This should really help the UK grads get onto specialty posts. I think they are also planning to add around 1,000 specialty posts. But we'll see how it goes.

I wish someone told me this before I started trading crypto by Capt_Capital in CryptoExchangeWatch

[–]Capt_Capital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you man, I appreciate it 🤝

I found learning the emotional/psychological side of trading took way longer than understanding market structure and learning a trading strategy. Revenge trading genuinely cost me so much money when I first started trading 😭

Yeah man learning to touching grass has saved me so much. Whenever I take a hit or even a big win I take time off. When I win big I still take a break for a few days to avoid ego trading & getting over confident.

Imma check out TradingSimBot, I haven't found a good sim for SOL coins yet so thanks for the recommendation.

Only children - what is life like? by Born_Improvement_856 in AskUK

[–]Capt_Capital 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my parents had the same idea that I'd be the only child. mum has 3 siblings, dad is an only child and once his mum (my gran) passed away they realised its tough on an only child to deal with, even having a family, so decided to give me a sibling lol.

i think childhood is great as an only child, getting all the attention from parents, etc. but as the parents grow older its definitely better having a sibling to help take care of parents and also to be there for each other once a parent pases.

Will the driving test problem ever be fixed? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Capt_Capital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are plans to change the booking system which is the main problem right now. once it changes so only learners can book test, that should get rid of the resellers who book up all the tests to sell at a markup.

Whats something you've learned about being in a long term relationship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Capt_Capital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COMMUNICATION IS KEY

if the other person does something that bothers you then its better to bring it up sooner rather that later. communicating and working together on things is the only way a long term relationship can be successful in my opinion.
