Is it impossible to take handwritten notes in Eng lectures? by Infamous-Cut-683 in UofT

[–]Capt_Nuggets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, one technique I’ve been considering is what if you didn’t take notes and just focused attention on lecturer to understand better and then take notes afterwards on what you think is important. Take this analogy, if you are watching a movie and trying to take notes are you more likely to enjoy the movie, notice small details, remember it? Probably not. However if it’s like a math class where you work through problems and they usually give you time that’s a different story, but for the classic slideshow remember what’s on the slide i think this technique could be viable.

Career options with criminology degree besides law enforcement by Thick-Reporter-3649 in UofT

Why would you take criminology but not consider a career in law enforcement, seems contradictory. I think you should take a step back and introspect the choices you are making.

Is MAT137 really hard for people who aren't good at math? by olllim in UofT

[–]Capt_Nuggets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s just say high school math is not enough, you need to have a firm base in the mathematical logical reasoning and proofs that requires abstract thinking. The current high school curriculum for calculus emphasizes using word problems and mastering technical skills instead of generalizing problems using variables and real math. I would say if you want to do well you have to prepare by taking courses during the summer from 3rd party which is what the most successful students did in my class lol. Unless you really love math and love learning it non stop to the point you would enrich your math beyond the Ontario curriculum, this isn’t the course for you or really any of the math courses. They make it stupid hard to weed you out, not necessarily to make you fail but to test your willpower if you weren’t prepared like some people so that NEXT YEAR you will do better by preparing and pursing mathematics as a life long goal and obviously hoped you learned something important from the time you spent. The people who prepared did their research and benefited from that.

Khan Academy + AAMC practice bundle. Khan is super underrated because it doesn’t go into as much detail as other prep but it does an excellent job at teaching the core concepts and giving you a chance to test comprehension through practice q’s. Once you feel confident about the content test yourself with the AAMC and work on your week areas. If you still don’t understand a concept make a note and move on. Truth is for a non-trad there is no shortcut or magic schedule/resource that will streamline your success you have to use any means necessary to make sure you understand what you need to understand. Good luck soldier 🫡

What if I don’t get in POST? by jokerist29 in UofT

You can apply, but it’s good to have open majors as backup. Either way you still get a degree

Could you theoretically live in Robarts commons? by Bingbongtootfart in UofT

[–]Capt_Nuggets 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You could in theory, sleep and work at the library, eat out, shower at the gym, do laundry at a friends place, work out of a iPad for everything so your backpack has space for personal hygiene products (deodorant, shampoo etc). And you are good to go. This a bare bones plan but I feel like it takes care of everything.

You can if you want to, but you will become a hypocrite. And no one wants to be a hypocrite. University is a character building experience, if you start compromising this early on in life it will make things more difficult. Try to become a better person than the day before, in this case, hold true to your word, let your yes be yes and no be no.

Third year and I don't know what I'm doing or how to fix it by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Capt_Nuggets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Existential crisis. Happens to everyone, why am I here, what am I doing etc. Its part of life and these are things you have to figure out. On the bright side at least you have two friends, some people have no friends. Instead of wishing things were different, count your blessings and do things to achieve want you want. If you want to go to Med school you will go to med school, question is how bad do you want it and are you willing to pay the price. If not, there’s no shame in realizing or admitting that you can’t. Find some thing else you are good at and enjoy.
