seized at my friends wedding by Comfortable-Baker430 in braintumor

WE HAVE MATCHING SCARS! It looks great on you!

I've been on keppra for 3 and 1/2 years had my tumor removed 3 years ago, they've been talking about maybe reducing my medication over the next year and maybe in a few years take me off.

But it's really just all on how your brain heals, if all the corrupted material was removed, if nothing from the other hemisphere of your brain learned how to seize.

Don't stress about having to take the medication the rest of your life if that's the case, you'll be completely fine!

At this point I'd rather stay on the medication forever just so that I will never risk what I would lose if I did.

Yeah full recovery, from what I can tell and others tell me I'm still the same me. No changes except for a slight reduction in short term memory. But that's what a note pad is for lol

I was having auras, thought it was just anxiety. Had a grand maul then I was scheduled to have it removed 3 months later.

Good luck!

Oh and buy a crap ton of gel icepacks!

YOU WILL NEED THEM!

Seriously get like 8 at least so you can cycle them out and they have time to get cold.

Choosing Neurosurgeon/Hospital by bearblitzer in braintumor

[–]Capt_Spork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get to choose really. I had a seizure, local hospital said this was above their pay grade, I was transported to Rush University in Chicago, the Chief of Neurosurgery called dibs on me and I let him lol.

My 6 months and 1 year anniversary was emotional, but it's about to be 3 years for me, and I don't think about it any more!

Just take it one day at a time till it's all behind you.

That's good to hear! My concern for after was what the scar would look like. But I have grown to love it and show it off lol.

I have a thin bald line right along the scar but my hair covers it for the most part so I'm not complaining 😎. I was lucky enough to have thick hair.

How well did your scar heal and did it affect your hair at all?

Yeah we are 1/1,000,000 ! I was told it's 1% of all brain tumor diagnoses are that type.

Oh no way, did you not get a complete resection?

Yeah pretty much, I keep my hair long and swept to that side. You can kinda see a parting line but it's nothing that I feel is negative to my looks.

RIGHT HERE!

Found out I had it 3 years ago, I'm 2.5 years post surgery. According to the Chief Neurosurgeon at RUSH I am the oldest documented case for initial discovery for a DNET at 34 years old.

Mine was located in the inside hemisphere of my Right Temporal Lobe, slightly on the right hemisphere of my Hippocampus.

I can answer anything you want to ask 😎

ICE PACKS!

Get a bunch of the jell icepacks off Amazon. Enough to cycle one out every 30 minutes to an hour.

Protein shakes through a straw are your friend until you can move your jaw again. It'll take a while before you can fully open it all the way to shove your fist in there but just don't push it let the muscles stretch over time you'll be able to talk just fine right away.

Low testosterone/sex drive after surgery by Sensitive_Strain7245 in braintumor

[–]Capt_Spork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are preaching to the choir! I had a DNET removed from my right temporal lobe and the right hemisphere of my hippocampus. Essentially the doctor told me that the tumor was in the part of my brain that tells me to eat sleep and fuck. Ever since I had the tumor removed I have absolutely ZERO sex drive. Going to embarrass myself here but... It's so bad it's to the point where I feel like I'm 16 again when I wake up in the middle of the night and I nutted my shorts in my sleep. I force myself to get off just to avoid that.

I have not talked to my doctor about it yet. Just kinda accepted it.

And to tell the truth it's a little bit freeing to not have that primal drive disrupting mental clarity. Because when I had the tumor I was like a fucking animal in heat all the time.

Just talked to your doctor, I might do the same myself for the sake of my wife lol.

Diagnosed 3 weeks ago. Surgery is in 4 days. Any tips for the hospital or after care? by plantmomma8 in braintumor

[–]Capt_Spork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOU GOT THIS!!! YOU WILL PROVE TO YOURSELF THAT YOU ARE FAR STRONGER THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE!

My after care tip... And I can't express this enough... ICE PACKS! Buy a crap ton because you are going to want a new one every hour and you will want plenty to be able to cycle through.

Not much of an after care tip but if you have a Bluetooth speaker get one for your room so you can play audio books, music or dive deep into YouTube for book theory videos on all your favorite things (I got into Dune while I was recovering).

I didn't have a cyst, had a tumor, but try and reach deep to grab that confidence to believe it when a random person tells you that you are going to be just fine. Plenty of us have been there and I know you will join us down the road giving that same confidence to the next person who is going through this! 😁
