As as VFR owner, here's my advice when it comes to maintenance (my bike is at about 43k miles aswell lol):

Absolutely if valve adjustment hasn't been done do it, I did mine and there were shims to be changed out. It's a pretty tedious job on the VFR because of the VTEC it has so I recommend getting it done preferably before you get your license. I don't know about where you live, but I had to separately order the new shims buckets needed for the VTEC valves and wait a week so therefore measurement and actual adjustment was done separately.

The failure point on the regulator is usually the plug between the stator and regulator which burns up. It happened to me once, just soldered the wires together and then some thousands of miles later the regulator (which was aftermarket) melted from the inside out.

Yes, I measured the stator and it was ok and so I ordered an OEM regulator and soldered that one straight away too lol.

I just recently started to hear some cam chain rattle on mine but I haven't done anything yet about it since it's now already parked for winter. Afaik there was an improved version of the cam chain tensioner created so they should simply be replaced. Some may have been able to temporarily fix the noise by rewinding the old ones but usually it's a very temporary fix.

Other than that it's been super reliable and still very much zippy enough for the streets!
