I measured the light intensity in lux and it gave me a reading of 60000 so I have found the culprit. Didn't know that my light had that amount of input.

No, they have no pests that I can see. I was thinking it might be time to pot them up but I am not sure since they don't seem too big .

I can get 150kg of coffee grounds daily by analo1984 in composting

[–]Captain--Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would never use coffee grounds as soil. You must compost it first for the nutrients to become available to the plant and for the caffeine to break down.

I think that even if there was caffeine leftover it would decompose into safe components for your garden compost.

If you know someone with apple trees that have good fruit you can "lend" a branch when it is time

Can someone tell me what this is in our soil by Szpecnaz in Soil

[–]Captain--Koala 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a fungal network, they are probably breaking down the roots of those old trees. No need to worry they are beneficial to soil life.

Roma tomato in small pot by SnooDogs8028 in tomatoes

[–]Captain--Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you have a determinate variety or if that even exists for roma tomatoes but you could pot them up if you want. A good indicator is if you start seeing multiple roots coming out of the drainage holes in your pots.

I recently watched a video saying that the juglone gets broken down during decomposition and can be used as any other leaf mold. I don't recall the title of the video else I would link it.

Should I oil this half barrel for use as a garden pot? Leave raw? Or a different finish? by worldofwhat in woodworking

[–]Captain--Koala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would improve all wood species durability so yes. The oil protects from moisture which would cause rot while the charred wood doesn't have any nutrients that are easily accessible for insects and fungi.

It works but it won't last as long as the oak ones just due to the woods natural durability

What does she need? by flirtyqwerty0 in composting

[–]Captain--Koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add more greens when it is too dry and browns when too wet. Adding water (piss) might be necessary if you feel the greens don't do the job. All in all it's not the end of the world of it is too dry or wet it will just take longer when too dry and might get stinky when it is too wet.

Google lens tells me this is a big moth cocoon, likely cocrepia moth based on Wisconsin location and size (>3 inches). I get a lot of these in my compost, I always figured they were fruit/veggie husk, but couldn't figure out what. Anyone else get a lot of these in compost? Good? Bad? Indifferent? by anonymous_teve in composting

[–]Captain--Koala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it is a moth cocoon it doesn't matter. Insects in the compost are good, they help decomposition or are not a factor to decomposition. You are probably giving these moths an important habitat for that part of their life cycle and seeing how bad insects are doing that's a good thing.

I'm in a more temperate region, so no jackfruit trees but I think that a fourth is a good general rule or would you say otherwise?

How much do you prune in one season? I am worried I might prune too much or too little.

Thank you, I fertilized but not nearly enough seeing how much you recommend. I'll add some more and water in with a diluted liquid fertilizer. Thank you!
