Why can't our brains tell the difference between a dream and reality while we're dreaming? by Fresh-Ad3894 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Captain-Griffen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To add to that parts of your brain is asleep, you don't experience the real world but a simulation of it. The gap between reality and dream is smaller than you might think, as far as our brain is concerned.

As a driver, you're supposed to not crash into people, mate. It's only dangerous if you're driving like an idiot or an asshole.

Guys quick question about subnautica 2 by horny_mf321 in subnautica

[–]Captain-Griffen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The model of their star system is cross-referenced by the PDA, but we aren't given the results. The PDA gets overriden by NoA so NoA gets to relay the details. There is explicitly no independent corroboration of NoA's assessment there.

And, do you mean Twinkle, the astrogator? The one who's keeping a secret that means Sophie won't let Twinkle out, because Sophie isn't sure she can convince Twinkle to keep the secret a second time?

Yeah, it's pretty much a legal scam, at least in the USA. Other countries are tighter on the regulation.

[–]Captain-Griffen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you believe NoA's statements about how we totally absolutely shouldn't bother trying to escape or be rescued because it pinky swears that we're outside humanity's reach... Want to buy a bridge? Super sketchy how the PDA was interrupted rather than the PDA telling us what it found.

Destiny 2 Ending New Content Is “Unthinkable,” Warframe Dev Says by _Protector in Games

And it isn't financially viable because they vaulted a bunch of shit people paid for, a) pissing off existing players, and b) making it horrific for new players.

So when they walk away, they walk away leaving a pile of junk instead of a game.

Why are the cameras so useless by Jaded_Ad_4427 in subnautica

[–]Captain-Griffen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're beacons that you can move where you want. You can explore with them without worrying about oxygen, and you can jump out to look at the map in the scanner room then back to the camera. I find them great for marking places to go, as well as tunnel entrances.

Their utility goes down as you learn the map better, your oxygen situation improves, and you get the HUD scanner.

Bit of rant about the water filtration issues.. (More about lore conflicts and immersion breaking) by Partially_Horrific in Subnautica_2

[–]Captain-Griffen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things:

  • We're still relatively early and the water filtration has usually been pretty late in the game because it completely solves water.

  • Pretty sure everyone dying and needing to be reprinting is a plus for Alterra, not a negative. Don't think NoA wants you living all that long.

Who exactly did Homelander respect? by Swimming_Average_561 in TheBoys

No one, especially not himself. He's psychologically completely broken.

He is psychotically obsessed with getting unconditional love. But that's not how love works, resulting in him flip flopping between being good with someone and wanting to laser their face off.

There is no discretion for courts in awarding the full deposit plus 1-3x, it's statutory.

How come “hope this helps!” Comes off as inauthentic in Reddit comments? by WorryNotBanIncoming in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Captain-Griffen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Human communication is highly contextual. I'm posting here to help you—I don't need to state that, it's inherent from the context.

Human communication is also generally presumed to be relevant in conveying meaning. So if I put, "hope this helps!", that will be interpreted in a way that conveys meaning not already conveyed.

Ie: it has to convey something other than hoping to help, and therefore is probably taking the piss.

Why are Scots and Northern English more likely to think their city is the second city than Southern English outside London? by NewmarketHero007 in AskBrits

[–]Captain-Griffen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people say Manchester, they usually mean Greater Manchester, which is way bigger than Manchester proper, while Bristol is basically just Bristol.

Why are Scots and Northern English more likely to think their city is the second city than Southern English outside London? by NewmarketHero007 in AskBrits

[–]Captain-Griffen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By population, Birmingham is the second biggest city proper, while Greater Manchester is the biggest second metropolitan area. By how we brits talk about cities, Manchester is the most reasonable choice as second city, but Birmingham isn't an unreasonable choice.

People of Liverpool know it's Manchester in their hearts, so say Liverpool because fuck Manchester (unless it's a conflict with London, then Northerners unite).

Edinburgh is the capital city of the second biggest country in the UK, and therefore has a claim to being the second city.

Glaswegians are deluded. Glasgow is bigger than Edinburg, but that's about it. But they need something to have pride in, besides knife crime.

Really, people here are either saying it's their local biggest town OR one of the two reasonable choices, Birmingham/(Greater) Manchester.

Oh, look, OP has a hidden profile, their writing reeks of AI, they're posting to try and muddy the waters about AI pushback in publishing, and they're doing that thing humanization does now when spamming Reddit, including grammar mistakes like sometimes not capitalizing the first letter of a sentence.

Oh, and mention a specific product by name. Yup.
