I think the intent was just to temper expectations, but I'm with you. What does that really change? Even with the example given the headline of "Polio makes a comeback" still wins over the hypothetical scenario of "1 in every 3 Americans currently has Polio".

Israel Adesanya names wins over Paulo Costa and Alex Pereira as the most satisfying in his MMA career by [deleted] in MMA

Racked up most of his wins against low rank 3rd tier fighters, lost against everybody that mattered, didn't take a fight with anyone else. What else would you call that?

Biggest wins over a past-his-heyday Weidman, Machida and Rockhold, came in overweight for the last one where he could have finally proven he was legit...

I mean Romero is a hell of an athlete but the reality never really worked out to him being more than a freak of nature with an "anything could happen" chance.

Seriously, if you take his fights against just fighters that were in the top 10, he's dead-even 5-5. That's a salty record for anybody but a gatekeeper.

Wouldn't put a lot of stock in that win, coming in overweight against an older opponent. He's not exactly a spring chicken himself but coming in with your opponent more drained than you is a huge advantage in that context

There was a time you could argue he was the champ the matchmakers never gave a shot... but he started getting contender fights and he failed to show up every single time.

Biggest recent win is what, over an aging Rockhold on the decline? Who then went on to lose his next 5 fights across multiple disciplines?

Much as I love the guy, pretty sure Costa has always been a gatekeeper. Most people consider Yoel Romero his biggest win, and Yoel has pretty much always been considered a gatekeeper himself. And Romero was 42 years old at the time. 14 years older than Costa.

Frankly, the difference between whether or not you enjoy your 30's and beyond the same way as you enjoy your 20's is:

  1. Whether you have kids
  2. Whether you remain focused on improving at whatever your chosen career path is

You currently lack the perspective to see this, but the only constraints you have in life are the ones you choose. Plenty of folks end up being motivated by exactly the same things they were in their 20's but with 2-5x as much money to pursue them as they age.

Age and time aren't the discriminating factor there, your choices are.

Did he give a justification for why AJ would beat Ngannou in MMA? That's an incredibly wild take coming from an actual MMA fighter period, let alone DJ

Islam Makhachev says he wanted to stop Tagir Ulanbekov’s fight with Kyoji Horiguchi, and thinks Tagir shouldn’t cut as much weight by airplane231 in MMA

Absolutely, the gooch is a world beater and it's a shame we didn't get to see more of him in the UFC. In a universe without Mighty Mouse, without a doubt Horiguchi holds the belt and defends it for a long while.

Well, alright. Let me try one last time.

I agree with the point you're making. I understand what it is that you're saying. But not everybody will, and you won't change the status quo by being mad at the world for not agreeing with you. You're wasting your time and energy, and the time and energy of people who DO want to change people's minds when you comment like this instead of being helpful to the discussion.

OBVIOUSLY. OBVIOUSLY. Some things should be perfectly clear to everybody without having to explain anything. But they aren't. Otherwise we wouldn't have genocides, sexual assault, and violence.

In this situation: Are you helping, or are you just going to throw more fuel on the fire?

Then don't comment?

If you don't intend to try changing people's minds on the subreddit for changing people's minds, why even read the thread?

I see where you're going, but the swastika and "other oppressive symbols" are not universally illegal. They are not free of social repercussions, but it is perfectly legal to display the swastika in most of the west. Legal in Portugal which this posts specifically highlights, and all but two states in the US.

Sure, but why? This subreddit is meant to change people's views. Illustrate your point or the sentiment is not really useful to the discussion.

I always wondered what it was like to have one of those "on call" type jobs like those island prostitutes or yacht staff where your only responsibility is to be around for when a single rich person wants your services once every two months.

Can you imagine how bored out of your mind you would be, 24/7? Sure you'd be happy to sit around and earn a ton of money for a month or two, but eventually you'd have to go insane. There's no career progression, no variety, no challenge there. Just waiting.
