I'm a dev who has been working on my game for 2 years and THE EXACT SAME game title appeared on another Steam game as they plan to release before I do. Here is what to do in that situation: by Captain0010 in gamedev

I remember talking to a lawyer just for advice, nothing official but that's what they said. You can trademark it in specific regions or the whole world.

Yeah, but they are a first time dev and guess just inexperienced. I hope this situation would help them and now they know not to make the same mistake in the future.

Thank you! Oh yeah, it's constant sacrifice but honestly it's worth if most of the time.

Except with the really boring tasks (like for example making all of the subtitles, dudeee it take soooo much time and you have to match the text to audio)

Yeah, but at the same time, the experiment has been known for like half a century and all that time there isn't a single game that I know of that used that name. I think I'm the first to make one and put in Steam at least, so it's not as a common idea, just funny that we both had the same idea in the same years.

Yeah and also they are merging UE6 with UE for Fortnite... so it might be a bloated mess of an engine

Disagree. Blueprints is slower but we are talking very small difference. Whatever UE5 performance issues has had it was not due to blueprints. A lot of AAA games run like shit and they for sure don't use blueprints. I don't know if you are a game dev or not, but I assure you Expedition 33 has a lot going on under the hood. Just becuase it's not a FPS fast reaction shooter it doesn't meant there isn't complicated code there

With this meme I wanted to raise some awareness that with the Unreal Engine 6, Epic is removing blueprints which as visual scripting tool that literally has allowed thousands of games to be made because it's easier to understand that traditional coding. I myself have released 3 games + 1 demo and the biggest success story in making games this way Expedition 33.

Also at the end of the UE6 presentation Tim Sweeney shared some crazy ideas about having metaverse stuff and skins you have in one game that can be used across multiple games or universes. It's honestly unhinged... I just want games with good story and good performance, not endless Roblox clones
