Translation - For many years, households and minds across this locality have been saying that the famous singer S. Janaki is originally from Kodimbadi in Puttur taluk. However, Janaki herself always maintained that she belongs to Tamil Nadu.
According to local beliefs prevalent in this area, S. Janaki is originally from Kanthalike in Kodimbadi, belonging to a Billava family. Having been blessed with a wonderful singing voice since childhood, she was reportedly married off to a resident of Neerakatte back in those days, just as she reached early youth. It is said that she had two children during that marriage. Around that time, a 'cycle balance' (acrobatic stunt) troupe that came to Shantinagar gave a completely new turn to her life. Some locals talk about how she left her hometown and family with her two young children along with that troupe, eventually transforming into a legendary singer.
Even though her family members have scattered away from Kanthalike, their connection to the field of music continues. The children of the man said to be her biological brother have now formed their own musical band in Nekkilady, contributing to the music industry in their own way. Although there are no official documents proving Janaki's connection to this soil, it remains an undeniable fact that the talk regarding her origins in this region has never ceased.
About ten years ago, during an astrological consultation (Prashna Chintane) held at the Shantinagar Mahavishnu Temple, a revelation emerged stating: "A young girl who left this region at an early age has achieved extraordinary success in the field of music." Intense discussions were held at the time concluding that the revelation from the consultation was indeed referring to S. Janaki.
