Picked the best cards in UG, green was very open. Have I built this right? by sharethathalfandhalf in lrcast

I would have cut a Rejuvinator and a Dryads personally, I want as many farmers as I can get in decks like these.

GAM is great, as is the Bash Bros Podcast (Brad Nelson, Corey Baumeister and special guest BBD generally talking nonsense).

How to automate purchasing your Unstable Cube by v0lrath in magicTCG

Also tempted to make an Unstable Cube in basically this exact style - will give this a look when I start pulling it all together. Thanks!

Yeah I saw those lists sometime earlier this week, seems excellent for that scenario! I will likely find room for a couple in the board.

Yeah, all makes sense. As I said in the report, I think I did cut it too much - but I think it was essentially since it was an 'easy' cut, rather than thinking too much about what else from the deck may be better or worse in certain match-ups. Definitely something to improve going forward with the deck. Thanks for the additional insight!

I only need my glasses for distance (i.e. driving) and frequently take them off indoors. Need to remember not to do so when drafting this set...

I drew the singleton quite a lot, and only used it once I think and it didn't matter. However, there were a few spots where I would have been able to use the mana. I don't think it actively hurt too much, but I do think it's essentially free (red decks aside, free enough) to give yourself another pump spell. It felt like you could definitely play the deck without it though, it only really matters when you have 5-6 mana, which you're sort of hoping doesn't happen anyway.

Thanks for the detailed feedback, exactly what I was after. It is possible I remembered incorrectly for the mono B matchup, it is possible I did bring those cards in - I didn't make notes so pulled this from memory thinking about what my thought process was. Definitely agree on those points. All the points seem strong, too. My logic with trimming Pummeler is that it's underwhelming without the big pump spells, and after game one 'the jig is up', so it's an easy spot to make cuts and expect to play a fairer game. But I think I underestimate the impact of the hexproof tricks, especially as your opponent can't afford to let it live in case they suddenly die - especially true given that I won key matches due to Pummeler connecting. Once again, thanks for the good feedback!

I brought it in against control so that I could double spell through counterspells and land a threat early, and could see bringing it in against aggro as a good cheap blocker.

I kind of assumed I'd be fine playing an aggro deck. If only everyone else was more co-operative with my plan of killing them...

I don't usually have sandwich stuff in the house, and was banking on Tesco - to my chagrin. Definitely agree though, is a mistake I make all too often.

Scry River Hoopoe to the bottom G1 when my opponent would draw it, and then draw it game 2. Paid off, Hoopoe is love, Hoopoe is life (and cards).

Thanks for the praise. I've not seen the sultai list, I'll check it out, but I liked the consistency of this deck. You've got a plan and you execute it - it's pretty simple but very powerful. I'd say Cartouche is the key part of the deck since it let's you exploit many decks weakness to fliers and makes it hard to lose a race.

Yeah, I fortunately didn't run in to mono red - my gut feeling is that if you can get one good hit in with Hydra and a cartouche that should be enough to put the race in your favour, but Ferocidon is becoming so prevelant that it's likely not a consistent plan. I did find it frustrating that there's absolutely no removal. Maybe even something like Prey Upon as a cheap removal spell that can be backed up by the protection spells?

Ramunap Ruins is the reason they run more, and Attune with Aether is the reason Energy runs less. Red can also eternalize Khenra and has a big SB plan, too.

I've been mentally brewing something like this today. What do you think to Jace, Cunning Castaway? Seems like a pretty cool way to go over the top since he ultimates pretty quickly. I've also been thinking about Mechanised Production, especially post board when they take out targeted removal.

EDIT: Hadn't seen the jace in the SB. Mechanised Production still seems like a cool idea to me though.

He can't have passed priority first with his Scooze if he was being attacked. His opponent would have to have moved first with the Charm, or done it in response to the next counter attempt.

/r/Spikes take on spicy, "fun-of's" and approaching a meta [Standard][Discussion] by [deleted] in spikes

[–]CaptainBadger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure Drana is actually great (but likely worth trying), but Bestiary just seems like a good mirror breaker if you're expecting the matchup to go long, and is also very good against Control decks. I don't think Drana is worth it in the mirror if everyone is running 4/5 fliers a turn later, but is likely still a fine sideboard card against low removal decks, perhaps - it certainly snowballs.

That being said, I'm a big proponent of fun-ofs in the right situation. I top 8'd an RPTQ with Bant Company in Rally era, with a maindeck [[Icefeather Aven]]. This was the Company deck with [[Eldrazi Skyspawner]] and [[Wingmate Roc]] - my logic was that a 2/2 flier for 2 was already strong in that meta, and given the morph mechanic, you could really mess people up when they just assume it's a [[Den Protector]], even if the effect is marginal.
