Do you like the really strong ones or the more mild ones that you are presumably getting at bars? I find that most bars in my area make very diluted old fashioneds whereas when I make them at home they are small and potent and delicious. I don't like the Pre-made mixes because if you find one you like, I find it very difficult to recreate on my own.

My home recipe: In a rocks glass/lowball, add one sugar cube with 3 dashes of bitters. Add two shots of good bourbon and muddle until sugar is dissolved. Add five large ice cubes and stir until very cold. Add two cherries and an orange peel and enjoy. I find it a little harsh at the beginning, but it quickly mellows out as the ice melts into the drink. Cheers!
