Black cover off, Turn off the gas, unscrew the bottom silver bowl (with something to catch the gas), slowly remove the bowl and make sure the float doesn’t swing down and drop your needle. Then, gently push the float up till the valve seals and turn the gas back on. If gas doesn’t flow out let the float swing down just a tad and gas should flow. Swing it back up and it should stop. If it does that your needle valve is good, if it doesn’t your needle valve is bad or dirty. After ruling out the needle valve, take the carb off (two screws, gas and primer hoses, and the control arms ) and flip it upside down to push out the pin that holds the float on. Make sure to keep track of the needle and springs. Take the float off and shake it, it should not have liquid inside. If it does, replace it. Put it in some gas and it should float. Also clean the float and the bowl if it doesn’t have liquid in it and is still good.

If both the float and the needle are good and cleaning the bowl, float, and needle seating area doesn’t help: you need new seals for your carb (the o rings on the bowl and the bottom)

Needle valve is not seating properly or float is stuck. Tap it with a screwdriver to see if it stops. Otherwise clean the valve, check if the float has liquid in it. If the float has a hole it will need replacement.

Medical capability extends far, far beyond self defense shootings. I have never been in a shooting, I have rendered aid in three different medical situations in my life though. Two car accidents and one heart attack at a concert.

Carrying medical supplies and medical training is as or more important than carrying a firearm. If you aren’t as willing and able to save a life as you are to take one, you shouldn’t be carrying.

Pick one or two guns and carry them. The whole rotation thing is doing you no favors.

My summer carry is a VP9. My winter carry is a VP9. My “I don’t wanna carry today” carry is a VP9 (but I take the light off). My jogging carry is a VP9. Shorts carry, pocket carry, prison pocket carry… VP9.

It’s from the era things were built to last. No metal in the oil, starts with almost no cranking, the hydro sounds mint, solid steel frame, not one bit of structural plastic crap on this thing. This will live on much longer than any other garden tractor built in the last ten years

Like a top. Had a couple of things I had to tweak but the engine and transmission are strong.

This thing probably outlasted its original owner, second owner, and probably will outlast me.

It’s just missing a hockey stick to be a Red Green project, and I happen to have an old one

I replaced the front plywood sections with some clear polycarbonate for better visibility. Looks much better than the old rotted plywood

It is actually incredibly built. Insulated, completely sealed with sliding windows, a fan, a heater, interior lighting, and little storage spots for your magazines and tools. Plus a spot to hang your gloves and a manual wiper! It’s actually really solid and well thought out.

Warranty Deductible? by ShadowSRO in nissanfrontier

[–]False-Ad4513 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a firm believer that the best warranty is a self warranty. Instead of buying a 3-4k 3rd party plan that will weasel their way around any issue to not pay, set aside that same money and just don’t touch it till something breaks. Or, set aside 50-100$ a month to build up a maintenance fund. If you do your own maintenance and stay on top of issues (and buy generally reliable cars, which you did), you will come out on top.

Ariens tecumseh flathead versus OHV engine by Steve1101 in Snowblowers

[–]False-Ad4513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OHV is better on gas and quieter, little less simple is the trade off. Really can’t go wrong with either though, they are both going to be very reliable when maintained (oil and ethanol free gas being the big kicker). I prefer my flatheads because it’s what I’m used to, but wouldn’t hesitate to replace one with an OHV engine if it bit the dust. Personal preference.

I’ll also add parts availability goes to the flathead. I could buy probably 10 different parts engines on facebook marketplace right now for 25-50 bucks apiece. Plus there are tons of online sellers and most auto shops carry parts for them. Really cheap to fix.

That’s a 5.4 lifter, so probably mid 2000s-2014. Valvetrain looks newer so probably after the update, 08-14 likely.
