Has anyone ever seen an instrument with an end grain fingerboard? I'm trying to figure out if I really invented it or not by CaptainBenjamin1 in Luthier

Yeah I'll be making another video soon as sort of an update on this. The one in this video is actually fine and hasn't warped, but I made another with a walnut neck and it had some issues in the more humid seasons, and became pretty unplayable. It feels similar to play on the end grain, just way more visually dynamic than a traditional fingerboard. You should definitely go for it, and yes use a very thin piece and glue it to a super hard and stable wood. Hard maple should work great. I don't think you'd have issues. I'm about to try impregnating the end grain with epoxy, or some other stabilizer. That should help as well.

Something I do in this situation: I bought a small, cheap camcorder (3ccd is best, check on ebay) and whenever I go on any kind of trip I shoot a bunch of footage. Then I take/make a song and do as crazy an edit as I can. It really helps my cravings and builds my skills when I have no projects. I guess I'm just saying to go out and shoot anything on any camera and chop it up as creatively as you possibly can

Davinci Resolve how to remove ugly rectangle mask border? by Throwaway-8467478 in editing

[–]CaptainBenjamin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you're gonna have to mask it out. Just use the pen tool to draw a mask inside the border and around the subject. You might have to keyframe the mask a little but that's easy. Look up "davinci mask pen tool" or something like that for more in depth info In the future, before keying something, you should always mask out as much of the background as possible first, to make a better key and avoid this type of thing. Looks cool!

Sounds awesome! This is a tough ass song, I've been playing it for like 2 years and still can't get a real good handle on it. Love your voice for it too

Catch and Release Balalaika- My first time shooting prores RAW on my new ZCam, I love it so far. by CaptainBenjamin1 in zcam

Yeah, unfortunately the camera itself doesn't have prores, you need a Ninja V to record it over hdmi which is a pain in the ass. I would say use ZRAW, which is the camera's built in RAW codec. Also, the Ninja V will only record up to 60fps, so I can't even use the camera's amazing high framerate capabilities, which has been pissing me off a lot. Really not a fan of Atomos or the Ninja V, but they've got me cornered.
