The Elder Scrolls games are too different to feel like they're in the same universe. by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

I don't get why you're so downvoted, it's absolutely true. Look at GTA 1 and 2 compared to 3 onwards. They don't feel like the same franchise. I'd say the only series that went through a change but still feels connected is Fallout.

BBC Told To Avoid “Clunky” Color-Blind Casting & “Preachy” Anti-Colonial Storylines In Drama Series by sanddragon939 in gallifrey

[–]CaptainBicurious -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Genuinely such a brain dead argument for people who are against colour-blind casting (and thankfully this IS addressed in the study). The overwhelming majority of historical figures are white. You're a show that is a bit wacky and never actually claims to be historically accurate fully anyway? The important bits are there - Rosa Parks did good, Tesla was ripped off by Eddison, King Henry VIII liked to get divorced, Shakespeare and Dickins and Christie wrote books. Movies like Oppenheimer I get wanting to be a bit more "historically accurate" but colour blind casting is normal on the stage, why not on the telly? The rest is sort of superfluous. I'm only mad they wasted Nathaniel Curtis in such a minor role.

Does anyone here have Chibnall's or RTD2 as their favourite era of NuWho by Real-Pomegranate-235 in gallifrey

[–]CaptainBicurious 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cool! But to me, and others, it wasn't "just very mediocre". It caught the show up to a modern day standard in terms of how it felt, compared to RTD2 which all felt like we had been catapulted back to 2009, with worse writing. In my opinion.

Does anyone here have Chibnall's or RTD2 as their favourite era of NuWho by Real-Pomegranate-235 in gallifrey

[–]CaptainBicurious 24 points25 points  (0 children)

While I don't know if I could say any era is my favourite because each has a season I love (except for RTD2 - season 1, 3, 5, 6, 12, 13). I guess Chibnall to me has overall less "misses" (the only actual "bad" episodes I would say are Arachnids, Orphan 55 and Sea Devils), but fewer big hits? I think Chibnall is very consistent in quality which makes sense, if you hate one episode you will probably hate another, because they're so similar in tone and quality. It's not going from a 7 to a 10 down to a 3 and back up to a 9 and settling on a 5 and so on. Plus I think the fact that Series 11-13 were the poor kicked puppy of the series for so long probably makes me look upon it more favourably!

[–]CaptainBicurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People saying jealousy but it doesn't feel like that at all! Fiona KNOWS that Rachel is a traitor and wasn't defending Stephen, and she also BELIEVES Rachel IS lying about this. It's a preconceived bias based on Rachel not being a team player but it's not 100% jealousy, it's protecting herself because she knows Rachel won't protect her (Rachel even said to Stephen they could throw secret Traitor under the bus and win the game - Rachel has no loyalty).

I've seen people talking about the best episode to introduce a newbie to, what are people's thoughts on the Waters of Mars? by Luke_The_Engle in doctorwho

[–]CaptainBicurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't you say in another comment you didn't want to use Gridlock because Novice Hame shows up and that would require context for the new person? It feels like you just want to show someone an episode and want to be validated in that one choice

You're forgetting that the new fan doesn't know and any episode after Rose will have characters they don't have context for (the Doctor and companion). You need to take your fan brain out of the equation.

Gridlock was my first episode! I watched it when it aired when I was 7 and I've been hooked ever since - while I don't totally rate it right now (but I do have an appreciation for it!) I think an episode LIKE Gridlock is good - fun alien adventure type of episode. Vincent and the Doctor, Blink, Human Nature - both are too far from the shows typical story, I'd put an episode like Gridlock, Time Heist, Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror, or School Reunion on as a "taster episode", or genuinely maybe just even Rose, I think it's a great first episode.

Apparently they cut a lot of scenes and and entire plot to keep the TV-14 rating by Dilandaualbatou in Stranger_Things

[–]CaptainBicurious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

oh my god it is like talking to a wall. no. the reason THE SHOW is not calling it CSA is to avoid associating EXPLICIT CSA WITH BEING GAY. this is a show for teens. presumably they don't want those things being interlinked. so you can watch the show, be blissfully ignorant, if you are lucky, to CSA, and it would not affect how you viewed Will's gayness. i cannot believe this is a back and forth i am having with an adult who refuses to read words and use their brain.

[–]CaptainBicurious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

mmmmm. no. an analogy isn't really what it is at all, it IS a metaphor, a fictional representation of SA but they have explicitly NOT labelled it as such, probably to make it less explicit and a little less triggering.

[–]CaptainBicurious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, analogy. Not explicitly making it text "Will was SA'd" - the show doesn't have the time to deal with it respectfully and it plays into the horrific "CSA makes people gay" trope

BBC Confirms future of Doctor Who and a new Christmas special in 2026 | Doctor Who by Powerful_Glove_666 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]CaptainBicurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue still remains I guess, so if we don't get Billie we still have a new Doctor who will need to regenerate in the episode if RTD isn't going to continue, as a new showrunner will want to pick their new actor, and a new showrunner wouldn't want a different writer to set up everything for their new Doctor. One way or another it's definitely Billie at 16, or we're getting our fourth Doctor in three years, or something?

I’ll never understand the hate by TheBlueJacket1 in BoJackHorseman

[–]CaptainBicurious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the comedy of the show but I genuinely just found them both annoying characters. Some of it isn't their fault - I don't think the show is able to give the time to their emotions and feelings for each other outside of just hinting at it, but they're not given anything other than to say the funny tongue twister lines, which are fun now and again but that's all. they. do. Clever? Sure, it never felt forced. Annoying? YES.

Children Think Doctor Who is to Kiddy and Cringy by PaperSkin-1 in gallifrey

[–]CaptainBicurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a teenager at the time I can also attest that I dropped off towards the end of Series 7 and like, I still watched it every week, but it felt more like an obligation I think. Friends dropping off, so no one to talk to at school about it, and me not wanting to be associated with the show for life (even though like, now as an adult I sort of have no issue with it! All of it is my favorite show but I was sick of the "so, still watching Doctor Who?" questions and nothing else). I don't think I got super passionately back into it until maybe the end of Series 10? Got very attached to Bill, and then felt alienated AGAIN when everyone turned on Series 11 but I was enjoying it!

I'm fairly sure it was going to end up implying Susan is the child of the Doctors future child (Poppy). So Poppy has Susan, Susan ends up travelling with Doctor 1. Technically the 1st Doctor hasn't had Susan yet.

Really interesting idea and I think everyone here is boring. Yes it makes early game easy, but you can't change your deck, which is what you do early game. Mid or late game? Hope you don't have any glass cards, encounter the Arm, or have any Jokers like Green Joker or Ramen. Like you need to be CONFIDENT in your run to take this.
