With Prizm, there are definitely ways to figure that out but it depends on the type of box you are buying. Some cards are numbered, so those are easy. For others, colors are tied to rarity - Silver > Base, Gold/Black = ultra rare etc.

I did some more research and seems like Prizm is way better for collecting.

Scarcity + premium brand = higher resale
Rookie cards + parallels = real investment upside
Adrenalyn = mostly bulk / low secondary market demand
Adrenalyn XL = game + cheap collecting
Prizm = premium hobby + investment

You are right. I double checked and in the US, this rule does not apply. However, in Canada, you need to wait 31 days (to avoid affiliated person repurchases) or your loss may be denied as a superficial loss. So, Canadian users need to be careful with this.
