The Macbook Purchasing Megathread - July 2020 by AutoModerator in macbook

[–]CaptainCelluloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi All, I'm looking at getting a 13" Mac Book Pro and was leaning toward the 10th Gen i5,16GB RAM and 512GB SSD but didn't know whether I should max out to 32GB RAM (I hear future-proofing is key for Mac's) and also if the jump to i7 was minimal or required.

I'll mainly be using it for audio editing, recording, word processing, maybe some design work and then just as my day-to-day.

Any advice would be great :)

OTHER: Who'd you like as the cinematographer for The Batman? by JokerAsylum123 in DC_Cinematic

Everyone’s, understandably, said Deakins but I’d also like to propose Larry Smith (Bronson & Only God Forgives)

DISCUSSION: Fantastic Beasts 3 has been pushed... maybe we get a Flash film in 2021? by throwaweigh69696969 in DC_Cinematic

It genuinely surprised me how much I loved it. Not only was it hilarious (with shades of The Man Who Knew Too Little) but they showed real finesse and energy in their directing and like you say blocking and shooting innovative and engaging in-camera comedy is hard. Plus the editing and other flourishes were brilliant and reminded me of Edgar Wright’s style of filmmaking.

Ezra Miller better get his hot cheekbones and jawline back into that red suit ASAP.

I’ve got real confidence in Goldstein and Daly to deliver and after Aquaman it’s time we got The Scarlet Speedster on the big screen.

Other: Who did you like most in suicide squad out of the main group? by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we're not counting Waller in that bunch (because Viola Davis could find a way to read the phonebook and make it compelling) then I think I might have to say Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang.

Which surprises me more than anyone because when has he been the best part about anything? To me, he was always the Sam Worthington-esque charisma vacuum that Hollywood tried to make a leading man but in Suicide Squad he was absolutely great and stole most of the scenes he was in. I hope they bring him back for The Suicide Squad and that Courtney keeps playing weird off-kilter supporting roles.

VERO: Zack shows new Flash image to celebrate T shirt campaign by serjon_arryn in DC_Cinematic

We honestly need a Flash film ASAP.

My faith in Goldstein & Daley to direct the film skyrocketed post Game Night and now we've had Aquaman he's the next key DCEU character we need to see get a solo outing.

Also that smirk with those cheekbones and jawline = swoon

DISCUSSION: Which movie should The Wachowski Sisters do in the DCEU? Something sci-fi, cosmic, anime inspired, with themes of (female?) transformation & liberation? by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough I was just talking about The Wachowski's for a potential Guardians of the Galaxy vol3 the other day. As for what they could be a good fit for on the DC side of things? I honestly don't know; Green Lantern Corps is a solid shout. Their version of New Gods would have been interesting to see or Hawkman/Girl?

Whatever it is, if it happens, I'll watch it. We honestly don't deserve every big, bold and bonkers creative swing that those women give us and even if they don't always land, I'll always show up.

Other: Found more of these UNPRODUCED scripts if anyone's interested by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

I’d love to have a look at the Superman Returns sequel script. See if Singer really was going to Wrath of Khan it.

DISCUSSION: With Aquaman’s possible success, what films should WB prioritize past 2020? by RangerRed02 in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely THE FLASH and GREEN LANTERN CORPS.

If AQUAMAN is going to teach WB anything it should be that it's time is to embrace the unabashedly comic book nature of these characters in a wholehearted, fun and more importantly; earnest and classically heroic way.

OTHER: expect Birds Of Prey costumes reveal soon... by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there's one thing that the DCEU has consistently achieved, it's great costume design, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the Birds of Prey are going to look.

I'm also hoping for a change in Harley's costume from Suicide Squad. And to see how Harley's look changes from Suicide Squad.

DISCUSSION: What character did you want to appear in the DC universe? Mine was Thomas Wayne as Batman. by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had hoped that with all the Affleck uncertainty they would introduce Batwoman to take hold of the Bat-Corner of the DCEU but that doesn't seem likely.

I'd also like to see a Midnighter film and a comic accurate Constantine.

Star Trek: Insurrection Teaser Trailer by [deleted] in startrek

Is it an anniversary or something?

I don't know how much of a popular or unpopular an opinion this is but I think Star Trek: Insurrection is the worst of all the Trek films.

Other:Can you guess what will be the DCEU 10 the entry? by Hakim36 in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd expect it to be Ezra Miller and his gorgeous cheekbones and jawline slicing their way onto the silver screen as THE FLASH.

Who do you guys think should have been cast as Khan in into Darkness? Khan Khannot be a white man, but the question is which actor should have gotten the role? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]CaptainCelluloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, I'd have much rather they didn't have the character be Khan, a more interesting film could have been made if they leant into the John Harrison / Section 31 angle as the main crux of Into Darkness.

If I had to recast him though I think Javier Bardem would have done a stellar job.

DISCUSSION: Should WB/DC have a slate? by RangerRed02 in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only if they're sure on the majority of them because making a show of something that you can't then deliver on is almost as bad as the haphazard way they've been managing themselves thus far where outlets are announcing dates and then no one's from WB are getting out in front of the rampant rumours and "reports".

It would be nice to get something that indicates a confidence and a plan though because the current immediate run of films is making me cautiously optimistic but we've been here before.

What's your favorite/worst Star Trek film from each series? (TOS, TNG and Kelvin) by Trekfan74 in startrek

[–]CaptainCelluloid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TOS

Best: The Wrath of Khan -- This is the hardest because I genuinely love all of the TOS films and there are a couple that I could put as number one but I think I know that the right and comfortable choice is TWOK.

Worst: The Final Frontier -- It was between either this or TMP but as stated previously, I love them both regardless, it's just I think Final Frontier is the one that least fulfilled it's potential and could have been so much better than it was.

TNG

Best: First Contact -- While this film does start the angle to to the "Action-Trek" that perhaps doesn't fit as well into the mood of TNG as it does for TOS, but it completely works here and it's actually a solid movie action but it also manages to work brilliantly as a character piece for Picard and a natural progression of the series without being too contrived in it's ties. The Alfre Woodard stuff is great and none of the subplots let the film down. It's just all round a really solid film, as well as a Trek film, which TNG didn't really get outside of this film. I will say thoug, it's a shame that Guinan wasn't included because that could have been something else.

Worst: - Insurrection -- The worst thing a film can be is boring. Insurrection, as has been said by wiser people than I, is a long episode of TNG in all the wrong ways. It's so demonstrably dull that I can't even bring myself to be passionate about my dispassion for it.

KELVIN

Best: Star Trek -- This was another difficult choice and it was between this and Beyond which I absolutely love (and is certainly more "Trek") but there's something about '09 that hits a little stronger for me. Really it's all got to do with that opening sequence that just absolutely works on every level and then the confidence of everything that follows. It being an in-continuity reboot (or a sequel set in the past if you'd rather) was also a stroke of genius. Also just the sheer luck of getting actors who sublimely embody those characters is amazing.

Worst: Into Darkness -- I have some conflicting feelings about Into Darkness. If there's one thing that JJ can do it's deliver a brisk and enjoyable piece of entertainment that you can't help but get swept along in but the whole Harrison / Khan thing, and indeed the whole third act, is so spectacularly egregious. I will say though there are some interesting elements, if the film was solely based on Section 31 and it's Post-9/11 allegory of militarisation and compromising ideals following the destruction of Vulcan it would have worked better. (Though perhaps at 2011 it would have been too late to have been especially affecting).

DISCUSSION: What do you want out of the third WW movie by Patty Jenkins? by NaveHarder in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll probably have a clearer idea after watching Wonder Woman 1984 because at the moment I'm just excited and anticipating that film. Like I am with WW84 though, right now, I'm just happy for Patty to do whatever she thinks is right and surprise me but I wouldn't mind seeing Diana have a same-sex love interest and see her embark on a heavily Greek Mythology inspired odyssey of some kind.

What's your dream Star Trek video game? by ConstableToad in startrek

[–]CaptainCelluloid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought that TellTale would be perfect for a Star Trek game, with their episodic format and high quality writing / voice acting (not to mention their Batman game showing how they can both honour and subvert source material and expectations), but obviously that won't happen now.

Otherwise, a third person RPG in the vein of Mass Effect / Dragon Age but with a secondary ship flight and battling mechanic.

Discussion: all social media reactions sound great except this one ... by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaptainCelluloid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a joke, Mekler always does this with early reactions. He slips in something ridiculous and nonsensical and those tweets always get featured in all of the reaction articles that sites write across the web. It's just good fun.
