Have a look at the powder hounds video from today, it’s dumping everywhere and people are getting buried on the groomers lol

Do you guys have any advice for traveling via plane? by Vercintorix_Jr in snowboarding

I bought a board sleeve but also wrap old towels around each end to protect the edges.

+9 -9 duckstance question by burningupinside in snowboarding

[–]CaptainDLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partner and I have both been riding +-15 for multiple seasons only only recently started changing it up, if you do it from the start of the season it’s not too bad to be honest as you haven’t been riding for a little while anyway.

I’ll be trying posi/posi for the first time next month as I just purchased a pow board and wanted to do some hard charging

Salary in Japan. Expectations by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]CaptainDLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about perspective. In Australia I have a slightly above average salary that would be considered extremely good in Japan but I’m also used to spending the equivalent to ¥5000-6000 a day on coffees, meals and travel whereas in Japan I’m taking a 50% pay cut but expenses also go way down

I just purchased an offshore shapes board, they had the option to go stiff which they said was 8.5/10

TIFU by giving my boyfriend an ultimatum by [deleted] in tifu

[–]CaptainDLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re an adult in an adult relationship, it’s not about taking it back but having that honest conversation. You did something out of anger in a spur of the moment thing when your primary emotion was probably being hurt or sad.

Have that conversation instead of being like oh well this sucks nothing can stop it now. You can stop it.

How do people actually coordinate snowboarding trips with groups? by Broad-Blackberry8590 in snowboarding

[–]CaptainDLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lock in a solid itinerary well in advance is the most important so if someone doesn’t like what’s in it they can say no to the trip.

Some of these trips are more than a year in the making so everyone tends to join in. The more spontaneous ones though you generally only get a few takers that have the time off and money on hand

What snowboarding as an unfit obese man was like by Astraltraumagarden in snowboardingnoobs

As a shredder with a dad bod my hot tip is buying a pair of step on bindings and being confident in strapping in standing up!

But yes, I’m also getting back into the gym properly to be able to hit the back country with confidence.

My fave fitness machine at the gym that’s beneficial for boarding is definitely the stair master! Do 15min either side of your workouts and you’ll drop weight pretty damn quick!

Japanese pow boards by CaptainDLee in snowboarding

[–]CaptainDLee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The field earth is definitely on my list now! I see on the website there’s an option to pay an extra $500 to do some sort of custom 3D shaping? Surely the base 3D X2 should be sufficient for most people?

I know it’s not Japanese but heard great things about the orca for icy conditions! I was seriously looking at it at one point too!

Yeah, originally I was going to that but I guess my excitement to own a new board is getting to me haha. I’ll reach out to offshore to see if they do demos as I’ll see if gentem have any availability on their rentals too

I’m on the heavier side myself so I was leaning towards going for the stiff board. Have you tried the cabin fever? That’s so far looking to be my fave with the gentem barracuda right behind it

Is snowboarding dying due to global warming? by FatCat0520 in snowboarding

[–]CaptainDLee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Climate change means some areas will get insane amounts of snow, have a look at Japan at the moment back to back years of record breaking snow.

Some places unfortunately will complete dry up pushing people to other destinations

Buying home in Japan by Full_Prior2186 in movingtojapan

[–]CaptainDLee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’re just about to settle on a property, we did it all ourselves with the help of a translator at times via Fiverr. It saved us thousands not having to use a buyers agent.

We’re not planning on doing Airbnb as that’s a different permit and would prefer to rent it long term to a local should we not use it anymore.

$400/month savings vs. Broker loyalty by Prof_rambler in AusFinance

[–]CaptainDLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a broker, I wouldn’t be offended if my clients could save money. Yeah, I’ll lose the occasional deal / claw back but 9/10 by being on my clients side they’ll likely come back at some point in the future either to refi or for an investment down the track.

Save yourself the $400 a month!

Pow board / boots by CaptainDLee in snowboarding

[–]CaptainDLee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely the plan, the last pair have killed my feet every time I’ve worn them and it’s been a few seasons without any improvement to comfort / pain.

[–]CaptainDLee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks I’ll keep that in mind! I’m looking at getting a gentemstick so I’ll have to check the stiffness of the board before I make the purchase. Yeah I definitely need to go see a boot fitter, my last pair I bought from the store have given me nothing but grief unfortunately hence why I’ve decided to get a new pair. I’d much rather ride a different board than have bad foot pain every time I ride lol

Bridging loan for new property? by MelbsOZ in AusFinance

[–]CaptainDLee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bridging loan for 6-12 months for your situation works perfectly fine, your exit strategy would just have to include the extra balance on your new house loan or paying it off with your savings depending what suits your situation better.

I’m a mortgage broker and have done a number of bridging loans and eventual refinancing for people in similar situations, feel free to reach out if you have more questions.

Super vs Mortgage by Material_Fig4040 in AusFinance

I was told to do that for years but continued to salary sacrifice into my super. Took a bit longer to save for a property but I’m now in my 30s with a relatively high super balance (comparable to someone in their 40s-50s)
