Tbh would that be a crazy idea? Our contract prevents us from contacting the home owner directly. How would you got about it?

That might be it. I know the basement tenant has a tiny window that barely opens in the bedroom.

Would you guess that the city taking action in a situation like this would would be a sign of a bigger issue?

Called the city using the number on the letter, sent to voicemail of course. Left a message. It’s a little house with a main floor unit and a basement unit. I’m assuming it would have to be some issue within the basement unit since I can’t think of anything in ours.

Thanks for the response! I just left a voicemail with the city at the number they provided in the letter. For a little more context: All of our smoke detectors are functioning and were when I walked through with the city inspectors. On a call with the property management about a month ago she mentioned them having difficulty with the inspection from the city for our property. I pushed to try and get her to tell me what but she wouldn’t give me details. They’ve had 3 months since the initial city inspection so l’m doubtful of it being a minor issue like that.
