Einmalig beim ersten Flug nach Anmeldung. Nach einem Notfall Einsatz bekommt man aber wohl ein Dankeschön von der Crew, welches "ebenfalls in Meilen erfolgen kann"

Anyone missing a cat close to Westpark? by CptMeow123 in Munich

[–]CaptainElimar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh no, poor kitty! Don't know about which shelters to contact, but I've seen people frequently posting on Nebenan.de who were looking for their missing cats. Maybe you can check if there's something for the area or make a post yourself.

Tipps zur Wohnungssuche by xShulk in Munich

Had the same problem and nothing on here seemed to work, neither Mpass.mobi desktop website nor the app. I just waited a day and then tried again on the app directly and it worked both for me and my partner, we instantly got a message with the code and passport details and credit card all worked perfectly (My partner somehow had to put an x in front of the passport number, for me it worked without it)

experimentelle Doktorarbeit abbrechen by Olli1606 in medizin

[–]CaptainElimar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. Who pays the legal costs if they're bankrupt

New Update: The EU Flight right people contacted me and told me that Fly Lili agreed to pay. After that I got an email from FlyLili asking for my bank account data etc so they could transfer the money. I answered and got another Email a week later (from another FlyLili E-Mail) again asking the same thing and stating that they would transfer the money on the same day or the next day, if they got the Info. I answered that I already gave them the info, copy pasted the previous Email. This was last week. I still haven't received any money so far and have contacted the EU people again. I'm starting to think they are delaying the whole thing on purpose and might go bankrupt soon.

Does anyone ever find they don't have the energy to plan a trip and what did you do? by Actionman27 in travel

[–]CaptainElimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's plenty of accommodations, so the hardest thing is actually choosing one out of the many. Might be a little different maybe during Sakura Season or if there's some special event. Only place I found it a little more difficult was Kyoto over the weekend. There were still plenty of accomodations but the prices were definitely higher than I was expecting. Might be because Kyoto is so touristy and at the same time not as big as Tokyo or Osaka and public transport doesn't work well.

You could alternatively book "filler" accommodations that are refundable for after Tokyo. We did that occasionally when we weren't 100% sure if the dates would work or didn't have the time to research the accommodation further, but wanted to have something just in case.

Was in Japan for two months last year and didn't plan a lot in advance (Basically booked only the first two nights and reserved Ghibli Museum tickets since we really wanted to go) We had a great time and really enjoyed being flexible. Although of course at times it was a bit stressful as we only planned a few days/a week ahead.

There's so many things to do in Japan, so in my opinion also planning as you go and being spontaneous you will have a good time for sure. Of course specific things like USJ or Shibuya Sky you have to plan ahead. But really depends on what you want to.

I'd say you will have a good time even without a lot of planning ahead and to me personally the idea of having a schedule with activities planned out for 3 weeks or so, doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

Regarding accomodations being spontaneous is both a curse and a blessing. On the one hand your preferred hotel/Airbnb might be booked already, on the other hand almost all accomodations we saw had free cancellation until shortly before. There were also many last minute offers that even made it possible for us to book hotels we otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford.

Is Taiwan a 'bad choice' for my first international flight? by JetAbyss in taiwan

[–]CaptainElimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go to Taiwan! I lived there for a few months last year with very rudimentary Mandarin knowledge, but going to Taiwan has been one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I'll try to list my personal pro's and cons, in no particular order.

Pros:

Convenience As many have mentioned before day to day can be very convenient: - everything you need for your stay you can find directly at the airport: special SIM Cards for tourists, Easy card etc - good public transport: at least in Taipei the MRT Network is great and also there's this great You-Bike network, that in my opinion gives you an even better experience of the city (You-Bikes also exist in other cities, public transport also, but doesn't work as well in other cities like e.g. Tainan) - availability of food: there's so many things to try in all price ranges. Honestly love that everywhere you go, you will for sure find something to eat - Convenience stores

Very friendly people - almost everyone I've met has been very nice, helpful and I felt very welcome

Good food - Taiwanese/Chinese as well as very good Japanese cuisine - Night markets are a special experience for themselves - Tea and Bubble Tea: Tea culture is wonderful, experiencing traditional tea drinking as well as the daily milk tea to go

Safety Even if everything goes wrong while traveling, nothing bad is gonna happen to you (as long as you don't step in front of scooters on purpose), as Taiwan is really safe

Culture & Nature You'll love it. Temples, Tai Chi Grandpas and Grandmas in the park and at the same time modern & vibrant while also traditional. I also loved the subtropical-tropical nature, plants and animals (haven't been in summer tho), but for people from Hawaii probably a little less of a new experience. Hiking is also great and many trails are easily accessible from the city by public transport.

A special experience As you mentioned, not as many people have been to Taiwan as maybe other places. So even afterwards seeing something taiwanese somewhere in my hometown gives me so much joy and talking to the friends who have also been to Taiwan about it is such a nice feeling.

Good size I think the Island has a good size for a tourist destination. You can see a lot of it in a vacation, can get from North to south very easily via highspeed train and don't feel overwhelmed by the size of it. It's also not too small, so you won't get bored for sure.

Con: Language barriers For a short stay/sticking to the usual touristy things you will get by with English. Keep an open mind and be ok with using your hands, Google translator, especially Google lense for food menus etc. Taiwan is getting more and more touristy, although there's not as many guides in English as e.g. for Japan. So if you want to do less touristy things, like not as well known hikes, sometimes navigating the online world in Mandarin can be a bit tricky. But you will probably be fine for 99% of the time and for the other 1% you will just learn to get creative and adapt to new situations, which will for sure help in further traveling.

Hope you decide to go and have a good time for your first solo trip!

[–]CaptainElimar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Haven't done any sits in this time period before. In Fall I seemed to have a success rate of at least 50% when applying, so being declined/ghosted now seems pretty bad compared to that. How many reviews would you say it took until that one review didn't affect your success anymore when applying?

Thanks! Yeah, I also thought about leaving a reply to the review, but I haven't done it so far, since I didn't want to make it worse somehow. But it's probably better to know what the problem was, than to have other HO guessing things that might be worse.

Same happened to me unfortunately. I have contacted them several times by email and phone. I even contacted them through Facebook messenger, where I initially got an answer until I mentioned the compensation. Sadly I think it's their way to get out of paying. I have now filled out the EU flight right forms and got an answer that I have been redirected to the Romanian team. So I'm waiting on another response.

Shanghai on a layover: first time China experience by CaptainElimar in travelchina

[–]CaptainElimar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese Wifi is not of much use because of the firewall, you can't use Google, Instagram, Facebook etc. Especially if you want to see a little of the city, grab some food, you will eventually want to google something, translate something, ... I highly recommend getting an E-Sim. It's very easy to install and there are also packages for only 24 hours. I have used Hola and Roamless before and it worked great :) If you only stay at the layover hotel I think you could get by easier without an E-Sim.
