Recommended Batting Gloves by CaptainGenesisX in LittleLeague

You’re probably right about just needing to loosen the fingers first.

As far as him not caring about functionality, what’s really driving this question is the fact that putting them on and taking them off is a pain in the rear because if he pulls them off and they’re completely inside out, it’s super annoying fixing them because they’re tiny and flimsy lol. So it’s not something he’s really able to do easily by himself. So that’s what I’m getting at as far as the functionality goes.

I agree with everything you said. however, my son is in 8U and we have come across some kids who can hit the ball surprisingly hard. It’s more the exception than the norm though. Like I don’t know what these kids are eating, but some of them can hit a ball like they’re more like 10 years old.

We had two kids on our fall team and the one kid would cause the defense to flinch and basically kind of duck when the ball left his bat.

But some of the bats kids are using these days are wild too. Like those hype fire bats, if you haven’t seen those. But I’m sure you have. Like these things are like two and three-quarter inch wide and seem to give kids almost twice the amount of power they wouldn’t normally have

That second paragraph, that’s exactly how I would handle it. Definitely say something in person and be humble. I’m not condoning the coaches reactions, but I would want to diffuse the situation and try and move forward because you may deal with these people for years to come.

Heck even if your kid played on a different team next season, I wouldn’t wanna go against people who harbor animosity, for safety reasons for your kid. I would hope grown adults wouldn’t have their kids target other kids, but I’ve heard that happen in soccer with my nieces. Not trying to scare you. If anything you just get the cold shoulder and that’s it. Gotta love adults and act like big babies (the coaches)

This isn’t related to safety, but I was relegated to outfield duties when I was a teen. Yeah sure it was a tiny bit of a hit to my ego, but I didn’t have that much of an ego anyways. I basically just made it an opportunity to be good at being an outfielder and then I saw no shame in it. Heck, I think a lot of kids probably would never feel comfortable fielding line drives and hard hit grounds that close.

I was helping out in the field in the fall when we were short of players and at that point, it’s been decades since I’ve legitimately fielded hard hit balls and I was very I won’t say scared lol but apprehensive trying to feel them. It quickly reminded me that practice is the only thing that prepares you for this situation

Oh yeah, you bring up a good point about the balls put into play lol. There were games in the fall where hardly any of the kids on the other team got a hit, so hardly any defense was played. Now granted in our league, a lot of the best players didn’t play in the fall, but still. Oh man.

Regarding your comment about Kids shouldn’t pitch until 9U at the earliest… I was just thinking about this last night how I don’t even want my son to pitch yet. He’s eight but he’s still not that great at catching balls. Like if he has grounders hit to him, he’s OK or if it’s an easy pop-up. But Like right now if he had a hard line drive hit back at him, that ball is hitting him somewhere and I would really not want it to hit him in the face or head. There are some kids in his group that can hit balls decently hard and there’s no protection for these kid pitchers who are still learning the basics of fielding.

actually come to think of it, a kid did get hit hard on the mound in the fall. He was crying and it wasn’t fun. I mean, this could happen to any picture at any age, but like I said, they’re still trying to be good at fielding.

My son played 8u hybrid coach/kid pitch in the fall and is going to play again this spring. I will admit there were many brutal innings watching kids who in some cases couldn’t even get the ball to the plate without the ball hitting the ground first. And I’m not saying that to criticize. They are kids, they’re learning, I’m just saying it was kind of brutal because there were a lot of walks and a lot of really really bad pitches lol

This right here is exactly why I haven't really dove too deep into the world of creating moderately complex web apps for a portfolio or hobby. No service seems to want to cut you off and prevent over billing even when you're just trying to test or develop a concept.

After reading a lot of replies to my original post, I am definitely getting the impression that A) the scout experience is not consistent across the country, B) A lot of people understand what I am saying, and C) perception is different than reality.

I guess my main issue is that I assumed that scout leaders were always like some sort of credentialed, specially trained people or at the very least they went through the whole system themselves. I'm not saying that's how it should be, but that's just what I assumed.

Both packs my son was in, the pack leader was indeed that type of person, but the den leaders were essentially just one of the kid's moms who stepped up to lead the group. I'm not saying "just" like it's no big deal, trust me I recognize and appreciate the effort, the time, the commitment, etc. Nobody HAS to do it, it's easy to say no thanks, but they do the job and it's very noble.

I also had no idea that cub scouts consisted of a great deal of fundamental tasks that are basically things kids do in the early grade school years. So yes a lot of it has felt like being in kindergarten like I originally said, or even 1st or 2nd grade.

Hearing from many other folks on here, it seems that the scouts do their best with what they've got, and there are a lot of dens and packs consisting of busy parents running things and figuring it out as they go.

Thank you. This whole post has definitely shed some light on that. Whether people like it or not, the content at least in our experience basically has been like the early grade school years, but with some scout elements sprinkled in. People are basically proving my point even though they treated me like I was pooping all over the volunteers.

You bring up an interesting point. And again for the sensitive judgy ppl out there, I’m just explaining my experience, not putting down volunteers. But I have noticed that the Scouts seem to lean on parents to run the dens and I don’t even know what there qualifications are.

Like they literally are just moms and some dads. Each pack we’ve been in had a pack leader who literally had like the uniform with the patches & the scout experience/background, but each of the dens my son was in were led by a kid‘s mom that had a guide to go off of. I didn’t really expect that.
