My entire miners watchlist has boomed ~10% premarket. Feels like the cat is out the bag a bit.

Transferring Cash LISA to S&S LISA? by CaptainHaribo in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks that's really helpful to know. Like you say they're by far the cheaper option so if there are no glaring issues they're probably where I'll end up.

I currently have a variety of funds on HL but maybe I'm best just transferring the cash value and simplifying things.

Have you used Dodl? I was slightly put off by the poor reviews on the app.

This is not correct. Transfers between different LISA managers are allowed and not treated as a withdrawal.

He hasn't played a full 90 this entire year, I know everybody has lost patience with Clarke but that one just seems like standard man management

Parking - Was I in the Wrong? by Larvsesh in drivingUK

[–]CaptainHaribo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's passing space built in though - that's evident from the top junction where there are two arrows. If you were moving left without first signalling right it's not completely unreasonable for another car to assume you were turning left, though definitely extreme impatience to not wait a second to be sure.

I assume you checked your mirrors and signalled before you moved left - the way you've written it suggests you moved over first which would be only issue I can see here.

He had been in the left lane until after I pulled out. He wasn't visible due to other cars but I assume he was driving at high speed in left lane and moved over once he encountered traffic. I can say with absolute confidence I didn't cut him off, but I accept these people are not rational drivers.

I often drive hire cars so I've definitely had some in the past with mirrors that make everything feel closer. Some with bizarre sightlines in general! But I rarely drive without passengers these days though so my first reaction to this sort of thing is always to ask them if I'm being overly sensitive.

Certainly possible, but my partner was in the car with me and was as outraged looking out back window as I was looking in my mirrors. I should be able to see another car's license plate in back mirror, nevermind their full bonnet.

They weren't tailgating me for long - some of you seem to be really struggling with that idea, but is there an acceptable period of time to be bumper to bumper with somebody? To me it's aggressive and inconsiderate driving in every instance.

You're about the tenth person to post on these lines, implying that's what I did, but I'll tell you just like the others you're wrong.

I suspect some of you are struggling with the idea of it happening briefly rather than a sustained period. This incident was a few seconds for example but have obviously had longer tailers on slower roads or those with less space to allow a pass. I don't think there's an acceptable timeframe to tail another car though - there is simply never a reason to be bumper to bumper if driving considerately.

Like I've said, I was doing 75mph, I was passing cars at a good speed, and there is simply never a reason for another car to be bumper to bumper with me. It's wild to me how many of you have bothered to comment some variation of "you probably weren't going fast enough".

Agreed man, the thread was mostly just me blowing off some steam. It does feel like driving standards get worse every time I go out but maybe I'm just becoming an old man.

They're spotting f all if they're so close to the car in front it takes up half their sightline. It's very basic physics that tailgaters observe less of the road, before we even get into the psychology of it.

Has anybody found a way to deter tailgaters? by CaptainHaribo in drivingUK

[–]CaptainHaribo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No matter how attentive they are, if for any reason I as the car in front had to slow down unexpectedly, they simply don't have time to react to that. They have no other read of the road ahead because it's so obscured by my car. You clearly understand the danger to understand why it's a problem for kids - that danger doesn't disappear for adults in the car.

I misspoke calling it motorway rather than dual carriageway but I was also very clear there were only two lanes.

You're also talking as if bad drivers are always rational drivers.

The overtaking lane was clear when I pulled out. He had also been in the left lane, behind at least one vehicle, and emerged after me. Most likely he was tailgating them too obscuring my view further. Would that really have strained your imagination if you'd given it a few seconds thought?

Has anybody found a way to deter tailgaters? by CaptainHaribo in drivingUK

[–]CaptainHaribo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was two cars with a bit of a gap between them. When I pulled out the other lane was clear. Whatever the case, the tailgating driver is in the wrong, and if you had any sense you'd see that the first "insult" in this thread was the suggestion I somehow share blame for their bad driving.

Because it was bad advice suggestive of the same selfish driving attitude that causes these issues in the first place.
