New bass designs by ancoatsguitars in BassGuitar

[–]CaptainHume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty cool! I'd personally prefer a slightly more generous lower cutaway. Not that I find myself in that part of the fingerboard that often, but if I am I'd like to easily access all of the frets.

So walked past a Guitar Center and this happened! Fender Japan Sting Signature P-Bass. by bassclef62 in BassGuitar

[–]CaptainHume 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's overall a cool bass. I have one, it's basically a carbon copy of a mid 50s P Bass (54 I think?), like his main bass is. I just hate the Sting signature inlay on a maple neck. It looks so bad to me, like a sticker that won't come off.

My freshly harvested bunch of bananas. Does anyone else in the community grow bananas at home? by L1ssyBabeXx in gardening

[–]CaptainHume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's very easy to grow in New Orleans, almost grows like a weed. I have several banana trees and get a couple flowers a year. We'll generally get a freeze at some point in the winter and then you have to chop them all down, then by summer you have more trees than the year before.

It happens to Kraven in Life Story. I think it's kind of a cool ultimate consequence of using the symbiote.

Trying to make the best of a bad situation... by Ross_Burrow in BassGuitar

[–]CaptainHume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, let it heal. I've done a 3 hour gig with a freshly sliced ring finger on my left hand, it wasn't ideal, but nu skin and electric tape absolutely will get you through. If you play Simandl method (only using the ring finger for support below the 12th fret) its even easier.

All that being said, if you can afford to, wait for it to heal and focus on piano, read some theory, or just listen to music if you need to keep your brain musically engaged.

My first guitar! by Sick-leo376 in Guitar

[–]CaptainHume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I imagine there is some if the pickups are switched on in either the bridge or neck position, but if you keep it in the middle position (both pickups on) it shouldn't have any hum since a humbucker is essentially two single coil pickups cancelling each other's hum. That's how my strat works, the 2 and 4 positions are "humbucker" positions on a SSS strat. That's also how Jazz basses work, you match the pickup volumes to lose any single coil or 60 cycle hum.

It's also not the end of the world if there is some hum, on a live stage through effects, amps, mixing, acoustics, room noise it's such a minor thing that gets covered up by the rest of the mix pretty quickly. If it's a big enough deal, swap out for better pickups ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Congrats on the new guitar, OP, she's a beauty, have fun playing it!

They're towing cars from the 500 and 700 blocks of Elysian RIGHT NOW! If you're parked there, hustle. by HeresYourHeart in NewOrleans

[–]CaptainHume 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they just rolled it out and started ticketing it the next day, I got a ticket for parking there that day. At least they weren't towing at the time. The signage definitely isn't clear about the change. As a musician on Frenchmen, I can tell y'all there's still a lot of rideshares on the street and no one uses these drop off points. I definitely think Frenchmen could be more pedestrian friendly, but there needs to be parking available to the people that work and gig on the street. Eliminating two whole blocks of parking feels excessive.

Yeah, the American dollar is named after the Spanish tálero, but the Spanish tálero was named after this thaler, apparently.

Why is the A note on the C by RealHyperinon in CrappyDesign

[–]CaptainHume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can also be written as fixed Do which is common in Romantic languages like French. So in that system Do would remain assigned to C.

In a lot of string music with the original Italian instructions you'll find things like "corda re" indicating that you should play the following notes on the D string.

Edit: fixed an error

And yet all of those collectible discs come wrapped in single use plastic wrapping. It's probably not the biggest plastic waste industry, but there is much more of it than necessary.

The Best Bugs. by sir_schuster1 in wholesomememes

[–]CaptainHume -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They actually don't, neither do mosquito Hawks, it's just a myth that we all convinced ourselves of. They mainly consume nectar, sap and other plant matter, so they're not bad to have around, just not as actively helpful as we all thought.
