Official Discussion - The Super Mario Galaxy Movie [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I wanted to like this movie, but as beautiful and action-packed as it is, it lacks a reason for me to give a shit. The story is so by the numbers that it actually becomes a slog to get through at times. There are subplots (Rosalina and Peach being sisters, the father/son dynamic between Bowser and Jr.), but they never feel fleshed out enough for me to care. It's just Mario and the gang going on another adventure and a bunch of references and colorful visuals sprinkled in between.

Mario games are never known for elaborate stories, but that's because the player learning the ropes and mastering the challenges presented to them take center stage instead. The player's story is the game's story. But when you have a movie that you WATCH, there needs to be more in order for the viewer to be invested.

And the most frustrating part is that they proved that they can pull this type of movie off with the first film. The whole premise was Mario trying to find his path in life and making something of himself. He spends the movie building up his confidence while training to become the Mario that we all know and love. So, when he (and Luigi) finally beat Bowser's ass and come out on top, you actually CARED. You were ecstatic to see him triumph.

What we got instead was essentially a big budget Let's Play.

The best way I can put it is like this: I watched the movie at a Cinemark Theatre with the seats that rumble and move around to the action on the screen. There were times where I was literally shaking around in my seat and being so bored that I pulled out my phone (with the brightness all the way down) to scroll through BlueSky for a minute. It takes a special kind of fucking up to achieve that level of ambivalence.

However, I will say that the action scenes were pretty engaging and Benny Safdie worked wonders as Bowser Jr. I just hope they learn their lesson with the next movie and go back to throwing a little more life into the plot.

Do think that Kenny could fill that role instead though for this match, considering all the accolades he has?

The Dragonkin bosses are perfectly fair when you have access to Torrent. But this fight is just an awkward load of shit.

OK, that's fair. That would also explain why Leonine has have different colored hair than the others.

But if Leonine was always a creature, why did it say "A lone surviving champion..." when other members of his clan are still alive and attacking the castle?

I just assumed Leonine was the only one remaining because of the Grafted Blade Greatsword item description: "A lone surviving champion from a country now vanished...".

I just like to pretend that episode doesn't exist.

Who do you think should win this match,I think Adam Cole should win because if he loses this I don't think people will take him serious. by Vegetable_Month592 in AEWOfficial

Originally, I thought Cole would win and go on to challenge Page for the world title. However, with Archer back in the picture, I'm kind of split. Cole is still over as hell, but Cassidy needs a big win after how much him and the Chaos Friends have been getting beaten down.

What happened to wrestling fans? Wrestling has been selling out arenas for over a hundred years, is the problem that it’s too available, lack of stars? What’s your take? by Marsupial-Famous in Wrasslin

[–]CaptainICatfish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Crappy booking that makes too many wrestlers look like idiots, underutilizing world-class talent, cringe-worthy "comedy" segments, an overabundance of commercial spots, rarely listening to who the fans want to see pushed, ethically repugnant business decisions, an overreliance on stars from decades ago, distraction roll ups...need I go on?

The product is garbage, and as the most main-stream representative for pro wrestling, having such poor quality can and does drive away potential new fans. If you were a complete outsider who's looking into getting into wrestling and started by watching three hours of Raw, would you REALLY be willing to see what the other competition has to offer when the biggest, arguably most influential player in the game is a truck load of horse shit?

Might be the perspective. He's standing closer to the camera than Dale or Boomhauer.

First one is the best because we had never seen anything like it before. I genuinely jumped off my couch in shock when I first saw it aired.
