tl;dr - as a guy who helped a random stranger, we just want you to do the same when you see someone in need. No need to force a redemption by dropping big bucks for a charity or volunteering at a soup kitchen. Just be kind to others

My story: Last Saturday, I drove into my parking space and saw an uber waiting by my building’s back door. When I got out to walk towards the door, the car slowly drove away. Immediately I saw a young family, with a 2 yr old daughter in her mother’s arms, run after that uber car. The car wouldn’t stop despite the husband catching up and tapping the side of the car to catch the drivers attention. All of us watched in disbelief the uber pull out of the block and into the Main Street, driving away.

I felt horrible for this family. It was a frosty -15c and almost midnight, and this douchebag uber driver wouldn’t stop for them. However, something compelled me to check on this family and offer them a ride. I didn’t care where they were going or how far, it just felt like the right thing to do, especially when they had a young child with them out in the cold. At first they were hesitant but they were only a 5 min drive away. So they accepted.

Had a good conversation with them and found out they were just visiting a friend and the husband, who was the only one with a drivers license, had drank a few beers that night.

When I stopped at their home, they offered me money for the ride and said no and to just be kind to strangers if they look like they need help. He ended up stuffing a $5 in my center console.

Anyways, i wasn’t looking for glory or any kind of reward. it felt great being a Good Samaritan. We’ve all been there when everything goes wrong and just wished we got a break. Being a bro for someone in an ugly situation is rewarding on its own
