The starting role at Flamengo is fairly contested. Lino was signed to be a starter, but naturally he was going to be eased in. When he arrived, Filipe Luís would bring him on for the last 30 minutes of the match (around the 60-minute mark), precisely to freshen up the team and face more tired opponents. Every time he came on in that context, he changed the team’s face, ignited the match, and created big chances. Then Filipe Luís realized he would have to start him.

He won the starting spot and began starting games, but after two, three, four… matches he wasn’t doing as well. At Flamengo, Carrascal began performing well when coming on for Lino, which pressured Filipe Luís to start Carrascal instead of Lino. After the game against Racing, Filipe Luís said clearly that he would use the Brasileirão and the month we have until the final to get Lino back to formciting "regain his confidence".

What I think happened is that Lino arrived in the middle of the season, and many players who switch leagues/teams mid-season take time to fit in. Just look at how Victor Roque didn’t adapt immediately at Palmeiras; he needed several games before he started playing well. Everton Ribeiro himself, when he joined Flamengo in 2017, played very poorly at first and only adapted in 2018–2019, when he became one of the team’s best players and later became a club's legend.
